The dust was wo fine that it spread out over the hed waier, and when the truck moved 8%ay the dust rippled and moved around like 8 mass of thin mud. Jt poured oul every tiny crack and opening in the truck bed We thought we had seen the day's accumulation drained from the tin And were amazed when a workman said that during an eight-hour day Az average of 18 Lruckioads are bGaiied from the collector. And since each load contains from 1% to 2 tons of dust. the daily average js somewhere between 24 and 22 tons And that, gentle readers, is just one third the amount of dust which has been going into the air every 24 hours-4o gettle down over streets homes, cars, and to work its LV inta every crevice of this town In response to 8 suggestion that A spray of water be used to keep the dust from blowing around when it 3 being poured into trucks, a workman explained that the plan had been tried. The dust is so hot. he said, that water immediately {turns Into steam and the agitation causes still more dust to biow around A simple calculation reveals that if it takes one man and one truck eight hours a day to haul away a 24-hour collection of dust from one collector, it will require three men aia three trucks eight hours a day to haul away the accumulation from the three collectors which eventually are to be installed Up to this time, no use has been found for the dust and it is being dumped into an abandoned quarry The collector of dust, therefore, Preeess 10 be a rather expensive undertaking for the plant, but it is reported that some practioal use may be found for the material to rane dust collection pay for itself, | Rumor has it that the high content {of lime in the dust may make it suitable for agricultural purposes. | To the layman who perhaps has believed that all the ‘ime company had to do to remove the dust evil was to nall a couple of boards over the stack, or something equally siin- ple, the dust collector is an astount- ing picce of work, Tis size and the amount of dust it collects should impress even the most gkeptioal with the facts that things are heing done in a big way to remove the pall of lime dust under which sfonte residents have been laboring for | many years. ¥ of on got ike | % West | | Mileshurg G. | | ing ‘at 7:30 in the church, UNIONVILLE Methodist Church Serviees:— | Sunday School on Sunday morning Epworth League in the evening a! 6:30, immediately followed by th regular preaching service at 7:30 with sermon by Rey.
