rhe CENTRE DEMOCRAT, BELLEFONTE, PA. Page ve _ August 7, 1941. THE WAR IN EUROPE The experts who write about the battles, now raging along the Rus- sian front, do the best they can with the facts that are available They are compelled to rely upon news that has been “doctored” by the nations at war, There no way to discover the truth This observation is pertinent when we consider the war between Germany and Russia. Already it is apparent that the blitzkrieg is be- hind schedule and that the Red army is fighting the Nazis efTective- ly. Berlin sources admit the bitter nature of the struggle and ol strong Russian counter-attacks. Why Did Hitler Attack Russa? In such a situation we must con- sider the objectives of Hitler when the invasion of Russia astonished the world, including the Russians The capture of Russian territory and the acquisition of Russian raw materials do not explain the sud- den offensive. More plausible, it seeme to us, is the aim of destroy- ing the fighting power of the Rus- sian army. is tell To remove the menace of the Sta- lin stab-in-the-back, before Ger- many seeks to conquer the British Isles, would enable Hitler undivided attention his foe, to seek an allout against England before the full force of American aid could be ex- erted and pave the way for Teutonic supremacy, not only in Europe, but throughout much of the world. We are familiar with the idea that Hitler has abandoned his plan to imvade England that he seeks re- sourees from Russia to enable him to withstand the protracted strug- gle that loomed ahead and that Der Fuehrer seeks to fortify tion in Europe in order to ¢ the Anglo-Saxon nations i him, We doubt if these causes suffici- ently fustify the warfare that has developed in Russia Admitting hat Hitler expected early triumph a does not tack upon a ously attem; aim is to wij so that the Sovie as a deterrent to his 4 y Wk bitterest decision ive Lo h thoron No Easy Victory For The Nazi Now tl the 1 in its sixth week Hitler ha CAS) The panzer divis across Russia, be! they sped across The Red army, fights on and no Lhe So—That's the Law (Co wu tims ued from page case and the library ed. Pruit from the less crowd- rows had much better keeping than that from the 2-inch ed quality spacing In another experiment the vari- eties Premier, Blakemore, Catskill, Dorsett, and Fairfax produced an average yield of 150 quarts of berries over three-fourths inch in diameter when the plants stood about 238 inches apart. At 7 inches the yield was 418 quarts and at 11 inches 828 quarts. These results were without irrigation. With various degrees of irrigation the corresponding average vields were 1438, 2656. and 2721 quarts for the spacings, respectively Centre County growers who have paid little attention to plant spa- cing apparently can gain much more from their berry plants, according to these figures Fertilization is another seasonable Business-Bound?
