HEALTH BEST PREVENTION
AGAINST DISEASED CHICKS
A successful year with poultry re-
quires adherence to a few simple
rules, according to R. C. Blaney,
County Agent.
Chicks should be kept growing
since thrift is nature's best provi-
sion against poultry diseases. Care-
ful, common-sense brooder house
management will prevent sel-backs
which often result in stunted growth
or make the birds prey to diseases
Learn to observe the behavior of
the chicks then change heat and
ventilation to sult their needs. The
brooder stove usually can be oper-
ated with wery little adjustment
when ventilation is adequate. Ad-
just brooder house windows and
curtains at least four times daily to
provide best ventilating conditions
Reduce the heat and increase the
ventilation to a point where the
chicks may be without heat by the
time they are six to eight weeks of
age, By then, they should be using
the roosts.
