«This week there was considerable
excitement among some of the sports of
Bellefonte over the report that an otter
or a beaver had been seen in Reynolds’
dam. A number of persons claimed
they saw the strange inhabitant of the
water, and described it as haviog a head
like an alligator. Naturally it aroused
the curiosity of some of our young men
who are anxious to write their name far
up on the tablet of fame. George Gar
rett became so excited that he went to
the authorities and asked whether there
was a law against shooting otters or
beavers. He was informed if he shot
either in Reynolds dam he would be ex.
onerated from the fine, He went out
there several times but stood far enouglr
from the shore so that the devil fish
could not get hold of him in case it
jumped out on the bank. It is said our
ood friend Frank Sasserman spent a
day on the breast of the dam, waitin
