Making Good Butter.

Buring the early, sunny summer
month, wlu n nature is juofuseof fa
\or-. there is little to Ix: done beyond
accepting her bounty. The tender
grasses are full of the needed nutri
tion. and they afford the constant
supply of moisture without which
the secretion of milk is greatly less
ened. Yet. at this season, as well a*
all others a jure supply of wat.-r is
absolutely necessary. It does not
meet the requirement if cattle have
a wet hole full of surface drainage
in the pasture or a frog pond. While
it is not probable that the tadpoles
and wriglors sometimes found in city
milk have been drunk by the thirsty
• cow. many infusions do exist in such
' pools that are hardly eliminated or
rendered entirely harmless by the
wonderful milk secretion of the ani
mal. Ihe cattle should <1 rink from
spring-fed loxes; and as often as
these, under the hot sun, arc seen to
produce green growth or floating
scum a pail of course salt may lie
in. and the current checked until the
fresh water growth arc killed: the
salt water is then drawn off, and for
a long time the trough will remain
pure and the water bright.
To keep grubs from the head of
sheep, procure a trough and spread
half an inch of tar on the bottom of
i it, upon which scatter a little salt.
The sheep will tar their nose in get
ting the salt, and the fly which do
posits tho egg that produces the
i grub will not enter the nostril.
