Law Kelatfuic to the Planting of Trees. Following ix an act of the Legislature, pa-tneil in 1879. to encourage the plant tng of trees along the public high wain. AN ACT to encourage the planting o< trees along the roadsides in this com monwealth. SECTION 1. Be it enacted, etc., That any person liable to road tax who shall trans plant to the side ol the public highway, on his own premises, any fruit, shade or forest trees, of suitable sire, shall be al lowed by the supervisors of roads whete roads run through or adjoin cultivated fields, in abatement of his road lax, one dollar for every four trees set out; but no row of el tits shall be placed nearer than seventy leet; no row of maples or other forest trees nearer than titty feet, except locust, which may be set thirty feel apart ; and no allowance, as before mentioned, shall be made, unless such trees shall have been set out the year previous to the demand ol such abate ment of tax, and are living and well protected from animals at the time of such demand. SECTION 2. Any trees transplanted to the side of the public highwav a atore said. in the place of trees which have died, shall be allowed for in the same manner and on the same conditions as in the preceding section. SECTION 3. No person shall be allowed an abatement of his highway tax as aforesaid more than one-quarter of his annual highway tax, and no one shall receive an abatement ot tax for trees planted previously to the passage of this act. SECTION 4. Any person who shsll cut down, kill or injure any living tree, planted as aforesaid, shull pay to the supervisors of roads as aforesaid fitly cents for each and every tree cut down, killed or removed, to be collected as other road taxes are now collected.
