K TIL K DII.AY or TRAINS IN THE WEST AND
DAMAUB TO PROPERTY.
MILWAUKEE. Wis., October 17. —The
B wind storm which prevailed here yes-
I terdav ami last night was the severest
K ever known in this section, and the
If barometer was never known to he so
P low. The wind was from the south, j
|L blowing between sixty and seventy
|| miles an hour. A large licet of vessels :
|| sought this harbor for safety and rode
B out the gale in the bay.
Dispatches from LA Crosse say the
B storm along the Southern Minnesota
B Railway was the severest known in j
K years. Passenger and freight trains
B along the line were blockaded in snow
K drifts faotn ten to twelve feet deep, and
■ teams with provisions have been dis
■ patched to their relief from several :
K points. The train which left La Crosse
■ on Friday has not been heard from
■ since leaving Fulda that night. All the
■ cuts west of Fairmont are tilled with
■ snow, packed hard. Reports of cattle,
■ horses, etc., having perished are con- |
B Btantlv received, but no loss of human
■ life has yet been reported. It is the
■worst storm ever known in Southern
■ Minnesota and Kastern I'akota, and is
Hbtili raging.
