MADRID, November 29.—The nuptial*
of Alfonso XII, Kin# of Spain, and
Archduchess Maria Christine of Austria
were celebrated this morning. Madrid
woke early. The first banner* were
streaming from the roofs at dawn. From
every quarter of the city the populace
flocked to their holiday. Troops of
cavalry dashed up anil down the streets
and military hands promenaded the

in the morning from the I'rado castle, !
changed her toilet for a bridal attire at
the Ministry of Marine, whither she had
been accompanied by her mother and j

bers of the diplomatic corps, by a nun -

The scene in the church w,s verv j
fine and impressive. All the tribute a

hangings, which, with the rich uniforms ,
of the diplomatic and military bodies. ,

luminations in honor of the event. '
To-morrow King Alfonso will present
hi* bride to the Ambassadors and au
thorities. Kx Queen Isabella will also ■
hold receptions.
The Empress of Germany has offered
s prize of 2.000 marks ($5.00) for the
best essay on diphtheria.
