THE SOUTH AND THE I'RKAIDENOV—TIIE NE
OEO 15 POLITICS.
Interview In Now York Trtltnn*.
Then* is another thing which ought
not to bo overlooked—that while the
South is wholly Democratic mid const!
tutcs the strength of the Democratic
party, wo <lo not inteml to ask a place
upon the i'rpsitlontial ticket for a South
ern man. Wo want the party in the
North to place two good men on the
ticket, anil we will aup|K>rt it for the
national success of the Democratic par
ty. With reference to the personal
choice of the South for particular Presi
dential candidates, I do not think the
South has made any. I believe that
there has been a feeling that injustice
to the old ticket it should be renomi
nated. There r many reasons, how
ever, which may he urged ugaiust this,
and the refusal of Mr. Hendricks to la
put in nomination again seems to ren
tier it impossible. 1 don't think the
South cares a copper who the next
Presidential candidate may he, as long
as he is a strong National man. They
do not care where he conies from or
what his financial views may he.
There is a great deal of misapprehen
sion in the North as to the political
condition ol the negroes in the South.
They seem to think that a colored man
is bound to lie a Republican because he
is a colored man. hut I know person
ally many colored men in South Caro
lina who have always been consistent
Democrats and have suffered in conse
quence. There are only 75.(*H> white
voter* in my State and 90,000 colored
voter*. The latter, therefore, hold the
balance of power. When 1 was elected
Governor there were only 119,500 voles
cast, and only 213 scattering votes
thrown against me, and 1 was undoubt
edly elected by the colored voters, who
at that time had all the machinery of
elections in their hands. There w.vs
not a quarrel or a list tight in that elec
tion. The Republicans could i. t put
a ticket in the field because the colored
people were satisfied.
THERE never was such a really g- --d,
substantial, satisfactory, and rapid .••11-ng

SOI Ml REASONS
Why we can undersell any exclusive Clothinq
Store in Centre county.
Reasons which if carefully weighed will convince
any one with average common sense:
7'Yrt—lFc (bed in nil classes of general merchtnulise, including DRY GOODS,
Clothing, Boots and Shoes, Groceries, Queensware, Notions, Carpets,
Hats and Caps, and everything ege-neraUy l.ept in a well regulated Country Store.
Second We keep the largest and Itcst assorted stock, iu styles an'l guedities, of Men's,
Youth's and Childrens' Clothing in Centre county.
Third—From the two foregoing reasons any erne: can easily see our maintenance does
not depend upon the large profits that must lee made on a suit of clothing by any exclusive
clothiny store, and conseyiienlly we can afford to sell at a smaller profit than any of Hu m.
And since we can afford it we are willing to give our customers the be-n/fit of the seime.
