Te the Editor of the Eventne Pu&lic Ltdatri
Sir The pancake of our fathers was
a noble circular structure, spreading Its

The Interregnum is generally un

four months between the election et

Big American Industry
Te the Editor et the Evrnine PuWIr Ltiletf
Sir Thcre Is little question as te
the leadership of coffee as America's
most popular dining-room drink tea,
grape juice, milk and moonshine not
withstanding. Few homes will be found
where coffee is net seivetl nt least nt
breakfast, while in all hotels and res
turants this drink is provided for by
far the majority of natrens.
Mi America does net lead the world
In coffee drinking. Helland seems te
enjoy that distinction, with Ilekium
coming second. But the United fitntcs
Is accredited with ranking third, and
as individuals we drink just about
twice as much as our parents nnd
grandparents drank about seventy or
eighty jears age. America's per capita
consumption in 1020 nnd in 1021 was
mere than twelve pounds, or one pound
a month for each person, whlle in each
of these years our great array of coffee
drinkers get away with considerably
mere than a billion pounds.
It can be seen, therefore, that the
coffee industry in this country is ex
tensive ALCAZAH.

PERU IS WAVERING
Still
Undecided en Acceptance of
Chile's Invitation
Santiage. Chile, Dec. 20. Direct
nesotlntiena nrn nreceedlnar hpfufen
Chile and Peru In regard te the rescr-
vatlens attached by Peru te her nc-'
ceptance "in principle of the Chilean
invitation te ine sjortiiceipjing ran
American Congress."
The Peruvian reply referred te th"
treatment of Peruvians resident in
Chile, who, it was alleged, were forced
either te serve in the army or te leave
the country.
The Chilean Government has pointed
out that such questions arc in no way
related te the matters te be considered
at the Pan-American Congress and
expressed the hope that Peru will net
refuse te lend her aid in solving the
general problems of interest te all the
nations of the Continent.
Lima. Peru, Dec. 20. Peru has "net
ncceptcd," In principle or any form
whatsoever, Chile's invitation te the
Pan-American Congress, declares La
Presnn, commenting editorially en a
Santiage dispatch representing Peru
as agreeing iu principle te attend the
meeting.
Final decision has been reserved,
adds the newspaper, until the arrival
of a "formal invitation" and the pro
gram of the Congress.
