JUST GOSSIP ABOUT PEOPLE Member of Younger Set
Nancy Wynne Gees te Mrs. Edward O. Shakespeare's
Tea en Saturday She Sees Seme Attractive '
Costumes and Discusses Mere Parties I
BY SOW (lie debutantes nre in n
regular "Chrlntmns rush," with u
big dance every night nnd teas almost
thing of the past.
However, en Saturdny there was a
most Interesting tea at the Bcllcvue, Bcllcvue,
theugh It was net strictly n debutante
affair, n.i the guest of honor was Mrs.
IMwurd O. Shakespeare, Jr., a June'
bride. There were plenty of debu
tantes (here, though, as the card of
Elizabeth Morgan, n popular deb, was
Inclesed in the invitation. The tea
was given by Mrs. Shnkcspcnic, Sr.,
who is Elizabeth's aunt (both Mrs.
Shakespeare nnd Mrs. Morgan having
been Mies Unird).
Elizabeth looked very well in pink
brocade. Yeung Mrs. Shakespeare, who
wa Miss Henrietta Wilsen, nlse chose
pink, which was most becoming te her
blonde coloring. Her ress was of
IWircd chiffon. nnd was draped, and
the were a corsage bouquet of orchids
ind lilies of the valley. Mrs. Shakes
rearc looked handsome in a black lace
gown, which was trimmed with jet.
She also were orchids and lilies of the'
valley.
Since the end of October Ted
Shakespeare and his bride have been
lUing with his mother at the Welling
ton b"ferc that they rented a house in
Chestnut Hill, Where they spent last
summer ,
THE Urcels and stores are just
jammed these days and wherever
you go u rc bound te bump into
ilerrns of people you knew.
I aw Lillian Fergusen, or "nitsy."
ns every one calls her. en Chestnut
street one dav last week looking very'
well in ii rose-color tweed suit with
Tiiile sleeves embroidered In gray nnd
Mack wool nnd a smnll lint of black
ahlnv satin which looked well with her
etirlv mellow hair nnd blue eyes. Ultsy,
who li the debutante daughter of Mr.
and .Mrs. Lincoln Fergusen, of Chest
nut Hill. Is having an awfully gepd
time this winter, hut se nre nil the
ether debs; it certainly Is a gay season.
Till..-., have been a great many big
ilnnce- nil fall, but net many that
have been called balls. Sometimes you
hear Hint Mich nnd such a dance is te
b. :i ball nnd then again that isn't,
till nu get hopelessly confused, but I
thlnic I'm ipiite safe in Baying that to
night's party is one. Tt is te be at the
lilt)! and is being given by Mr. and
Mr. Walter M. Jefferds for their
debutante niece, .Marguerite Beyle, who
is engaged te Legan Ulack.
Among these who will give dinners
bffiire the ball nre Mr. nnd Mrs. Leuis
Redman Page. Jr.. who will cntcrtuin
st the ltltz for Florence Crozer and
Anne Town-end. who will entertain in
honor of Elizabeth and Klenner Mnc

mere, who. I think, nre nlse debs.
Anne will iiUe give a dinner en Thurs
day night for them nnd for two of her
ether friends, Helen Scott and Lucy
Carnegie, of Uosten, who expect te
Urn with her. for Thursday is the
nlglit. j en temember, when nbeut forty
friend' of Anne's parents, the late Mr.
and Mrs. Italpli Tewn'-end. will give n
Ia,rge dance for her, nnd from nil tlint
I hear it is going te be quite nn un
usual affair.
THEV gae Ellen some soup for
lunch the ether day when she enme
te visit nt grandma's house. It was
home-made soup, and somehow It
hadn't turned out se well ns tisunl.
The crew imps knew it ns seen ns they
ta.ted (lie first spoonful, but they
hoped Ellen's baby taste she is only
four would miss It. Slowly, with the
laborious method bv which she manipu
lated her spoon, sue lifted some of it
'e her small, pink mouth Her face
went blank with disappointment, but
Mie didn't sny nnythlng. One mere
spoonful went carefully in. nnd then
Min spoon wns laid neatly down, Ellen
leaned back in her high chnir nnd the
manners which mother had se care
fully taught her made their first spoli
ations appearance.
She gave a regretful little sigh. "T
guess I'll just eat bread and butter,"
she remarked gently,
