announces a
Wage Dividend
K take great pleasure in announcing a wage dividend based upon
the dividend rate of the common stock and payable te the empleyes
of The Philadelphia Electric Company, as authorized by the Beard
of Directors at a meeting held en November 28th.
This action by the Beard is the logical result of a definite policy of
The Philadelphia Electric Company, namely: that the Company should,
when prosperous, share such prosperity with the three classes who are
partners and in their various ways responsible for the utility's successful
operation, namely: its Customers, its Stockholders and its Empleyes.
Last May the Directors of the Company authorized a reduction in t
rates which benefited the customers te the extent of a saving in electric ',
current costs, ever a period of twelve months, of mere than a million
dollars. At the same time the dividend en the common stock was
increased from seven te eight per cent, amounting te $300,000, and new
the empleyes, whose faithful and efficient work is largely responsible for
the successful operation of the Company, will receive a proper reward
in the shape of a dividend en their yearly wages, ranging from two te
eight per cent, based upon years of service with the Company,. and
amounting approximately te $300,000 for the year 1922.
I believe that the work done by the capable and loyal empleye may
net always be entirely recompensed in the yearly wage and that, under
certain conditions, he is entitled te a proportionate share of such pros
perity as may result from increased efficiencies which are net alone due
te painstaking and intelligent supervision but are equally brought about
by the individual who, regardless of position, is giving the best that is in
him for his employer and, above all, for Public Service.
While this action of the Directors is in no way a selfish one, yet
there is an element of far-sighted calculation in their action, for there
can be no doubt that the empleye in any industry who feels that he will
be permitted te share in the development and in the savings and effi
ciencies which produce prosperity, will de his utmost in order that this
condition shall continue in the months. and years te come.
