MIXED MOVEMENT
N LOCAL STOCKS
Lake Superior Struck New Lew
. for Year en Small Sell
ing Orders
Today's local mnrkpt in se far (in
price movement, -vnii n rntlicr mlxMl
up affair. There Is little doubt but
thnt crumbling of market Ynlues en the
Hie Ilenrd is influencing both veltintnry
nml inveluntnry HqiiMntlen. There
were indications in some of the preced
ing sessions such adjustments were com
pleted. Such, however, wns net the
case, but when things get turned np
side down ns they hove been in Wnlj
Street the Inst three weeks, it is beyond
human power te mnkc safe or nccurata
measurements.
In n small way the day's market
centnlned both strong and soft spots.
Of tlie latter, T.nkc Superior Corpora
tion wns a weak sister, mnltlne a new
low record for the year nt R, and
which wns nlse within an "6 of the bot
tom figure reached in the great lln.ul
dating movement of last year, when it
touched B'li.
Reactionary symptens were nlse
found In American Stores, which ran
off 1-74 te 1B24, Inter rallying te 113.
This could be accepted ns belated sell
ing because of disappointment ever the
dividend. Freer offerings of Pennsyl
Miiila Railroad carried that stock back
te the low of the week 10. Such
selling wns without significance ns it
undoubtedly represented throwing ever
of speculative holdings by these who
overstayed the market, or by these
where marginal accounts had been im
paired by the severe slump in the New New
Yerk stocks. U. (!. I. was also fed out
mere liberally, causing a retreat te par
(50).
Little wns done in most of the ether
local shares. Only n few odd lets of
P. R. T. changed hands. The Phila
delphia Klcetrie. issues were firmer with
fractional gains which nearly made up
the dividends Ink off this week. One
of the stronger spots wns found In
Amcricnn Railways common, which
shot up 2 points te 1:1 , but the
preferred nt the same tlm ran off 2
points. Crnmps. Philadelphia Insulated
Wire and Penn Ventral Light preferred
scored substantial fractional pains.
