Possibility of Heuse Heating
With Gas Instead
VVVVSAAiVWVVVVVVVVVSAWWSl
The following information is compiled for use by our workmen, when asked
by consumers nbeut certain features concerning the use of gas for house heating:
Question 1. Is possible te install a gas burner In a house heater (het water,
steam or het air) ?
Answer.
Yes,
Question 2. If ""ch a burner h installed, hew much irns will be needed for
every ten of coal used previously?
Answer. If Baa burners are inserted in an existing heusu heater, it preb
ably will cost ii or -I times as much te heat the house ns it did
with coal. An existing heater cannot be converted te an efficient
gas-burninp; appliance. Even when the heater is specially designed
and built for the purpose, Rn at $1.00 per thousand cubic feet
would be mero expensive than coal, unless the latter were selling
at $32.00 per ten; then the cost of the two would be equal.
Question 3. ,Dees
heaters?
Answer.
The
will
Question 4. U00'' tne Company rcremmend the installation of gas burners In
a house heater?
Answer. rn( Company advises against such installations, because they are
extremely inefficient, and probably would be discarded after n
short trial. The Company will express no opinion en the relative
merits of nny burners advettised for thn purpose.
Ouestien 5. If sVch n burner s installed, will the Company set a meter te
supply it?
Answer. rh' Company will install meters te supply gas burners uhetl for
thih purpose, provided tint in it- opinion, no hazard te peen or
property is created. An installation which inc'udes the removal
et any part of the drum between the 1're box nnd the air chamber
of a hetair furnace will net he supplied with gas.
Question 6. Will Vhe Underwriters take exception te such nn installation?
Answer. We "' 0 information for tlie Philadelphia situation, but have
never nenid of them taking exception te the piinciple of using gas
ter house heating, for if gn heating apparatus is proper! v de
signed there should be no mere dancer m using gas than thie
would be te use coal for the heating agency.
(An litter de.-inng a copy of this sheet should apply te his foreman)
MTT We believe the above unsigned information sheer is
directed against us. A glance at it will probably disclose
JI the publishers. Te us it is ob ions. Their opinion is a
guess. Our guarantee is based en known facts. Take
your choice.
