fST1 GOSSIP ABOUT PEOPLE
tfancy Wynne Tells of Happenings in Debutante World.
Sees Many Fascinating Costumes at the Herse Shew.
Afternoent Tea in Feyer After Orchestra Concert
THH dcbutnnte gayctles nre certainly
going strong new. Iinst night there
were two nffnlrs ene the dinner
dance, which wni net very large, which
the Stanley O. Klngg .Trs. gave nt
their Hryn Mnwr home In honor of
Helen Hepe Montgomery, nml the ether
the ball which the Frederick Keens
gave nt the Merlen Cricket Club for
Eleaner, the Keens' party marking the
first ball of thcscasen.
While It hnrf net been customary te
ive balls at the country c1uIh, It
seems t me te have been an excellent
Idea. Yeu nee, It's tee early In the
Wilsen te give it dance In town, and yet
later In the sennen there nre no many
balls one gets (tort of fed up with
them. A ball early In the sensen, there
fore, and out nt a country club, tee,
is a splendid Idea.
There were mere than r00 guents,
nd It was n beautiful affnlr. Eleaner
.were a frock of blue, silver and geld
'brocade, nnd the draped skirt was lin
ished with a Mlvcr girdle. Mrs. Keens
had en a handsome gown of sapphire
blue Uncarted chiffon velvet. The ball
room Mas decerntrd with nutuinn Unw
orn and the bouquets received by the
debutante.
Hepe Montgomery's freek for the
Flaggs' dunce was exquisite. My, but
ghc has lovely clothes 1 Her frock was
n combination of blue and silver metal
cloth. She is very, sweet and bus such
pretty eyes. There were ubeut 150
guests at the dinner-dance.
BESIDES the two evening nffnlrs,
there was the Mellis' tea nt their
home In Arilmerc, te which a number
of people went from the Herse Shew at
various times during the afternoon.
Dorethea looked stunning. She is very
geed looking, I think, and her frock of
white velvet, embroidered lu silver,
brought out the fnlrncss of her skin
and her unusual coloring. She was cur
rying a benquct of orchids while I was
there, and it was just the right touch
of color te the costume.
Mrs. Mehl were brown velvet. Among
these from Bnltlmere who assisted Mrs.
Mehl in receiving wcre Mrs. Albert

tfn,.li nffprnnen Mrs. Rebert Learn
ing Montgomery seemed te appear In !
n mere striking costume. 1 he ether
day she were n umi-u rinium i-n-i-gown
made with a .draped skirt nnd a
long overbleuse. Tarts of the dress
were outlined with green nnd geld em
broidery, nnd across the front of the
Wew-p were embroidered several large
parrots In purple nnd green. It was
most unusual.
Mr". Montgomery had with her In her
"box. her younger duughtcr, who Is ubeut
ten years old. and who wns prettily
dressed in a little frock of pink crepe
de diliie and a lurgc white straw hat.
Anether of Mrs. Montgomery's guests
was Mrs. Jehn White Geary, who were
n hnndxemp silk dress in an all-ever
l'erMaii design In dull reds nnd blues,
ii ml u dark blue panne velvet hut turned
up iu front.
In a box near the Montgemcrys' wns
llrs. Arthur Emlen Newbold, Jr., who
was M-cn chatting with her sister-in-law,
Mrs. Lothrop Itltchle, and Mellie

In a large black hat of panne velvet anil

COURSE the debutnntes were
much in evidence in the boxes with

Knit dresses of wool or silk are still
very popular. Rhedu Breeke, Mrs.

been wearing a pretty one of yellow
fcilk with a small white felt hat. Twe
of the sub-debs, Snllie Henry, who Is
