TENNIS Is the thing up at Newport
this week, tee, you knew, nnd If
tee. feel you would be cooler up there
than here, becaubc It Is further north
and en the ten. you nre mistnken, for
be it known I have had a letter from
a friend who is spending this mentn
there, and she says It's been simply
fierce ns te heat, nnd every ene is wear
ing the thinnest of frocks nt the Ca Ca
ilne. .
One of the prettiest was worn by
Mrs. Crnig Diddle. It was of creamy
lace nnd chiffon nnd was about three
Inches from the ground. Her hat was
a model of cream georgette trimmed with
a large water lily. Yeung Laura Bid
die were a lovely girlish dress of hand
vdrftwn white volle nnd n hat of the
same material trimmed with a simple
itlff bow nt the side.
On Thursday Mrs. Riddle was In light
blue, the sleeves nnd girdle of the
gown being elaborately embroidered in
small red nnd black squares.
Mrs. Gcerge D. "Widcner, another
Philadelphia woman, were a lovely
frock made in ene piece, of pale laven
der crepe, nnd her lint was n pale, pale
pink, trimmed with pink grapes.
Strange te say, she carried a brilliant
red parasol with this costume. Hut
the pink and red did net quarrel a bit,
I suppose, because the former color was
se pale. All of tills was told me in
the interesting letter which came my
ay, and se 1 pass It en te you.
POLO is still being enthusiastically
attended in Narragansett Pier and
en Thursday General Pershing was there
for the match for the junior clinm clinm
pleuhir. Mr. Philip Randelph, father
of all the fascinating Randelph sous
and daughters, gave n luncheon in honor
of the distinguished general at his home
nt the Pier. Mr. Randelph is ene of
the most delightful hosts I knew. In
fact, the Randelphs nre altogether n.
delightful family. They are all wonder
fully geed looking. And they ought te
be fjr their father Is "a flne figure et

mother, who snd te say. only lled
till Dorethy the eldest, new Mrs. Jack

very prettiest jeung girls of her time.
She wns MKs Hannah Fethcrsten,

Northcliffe fiddled
en the heart strings
of the world
and Beth Hemispheres "Listened In"
The life-story of the late Lord Northcliffe is paralleled only
by the life studies of historic heroes in that immortal class
with Napeleon.
Northcliffe is the one man who has eut-Carlyled Carlyle
and who has eut-Kiplined Kipling.
The real truth about Northcliffe and his life's faults,
resources, errors and triumphs is se startling that it reads
like the most sensational fiction.
Yeu will find a most interesting article en the man, North
cliffe, written bv a man who has known him for the great
character he has been. This is the front-page feature in
tomorrow's Sunday Public Ledger.
Magazine Section
SUNDAY, AUGUST 20th
Even mere interesting than ever you will find the coming
week's Magazine Section. Following the feature en Lord
Northcliffe, there is an article by Will K. Hammend, in
which he points out the possibility that some day, feeds will
replace medicines for every human ill.
"Over the Shell-pits Again With a Doughbev" "Uncle
Sam as Guest of Hener at Brazil's Biggest Birth'dav Party"
"Are We On the Edge of One of Ged's Secrets?" an
article of science en "Selving the Mystery of the Planet
Mars" and two fine short pieces of fiction.
These, together with fun that is funnier than ever in
Leuis Hanlen's "Follies of the Parsing Shew," sketches
and humorous articles by Hemer Balmv and Ring W I ard"
ner, will give you some very pleasant Sunday reading"'
The complete Magazine Section, beautiful sepia
tone Rotogravure Section and six-page all-star
. Comic Section are in addition te the comprehensive
News Section of tomorrow's Sunday Public Ledger.
