Salient features as summarized by Jeseph F. Perter, President,
Kansas City Power and Light Company
Business: The Kansas City Power & Light
Company will be formed under the laws
of the State of Missouri as a consolida
tion of the Kansas City Power and Light
Company and the Carrell County Elec
tric Company. The Kansas City Power
and Light Company controls the electric
light and power business in Kansas City,
Missouri, and also wholesales current te
companies serving about 44 towns in ad
jacent territory. The Carrell County
Electric Company operates an electric
light and power business in Carrell,
Chariton and Heward Counties, Missouri,
serving 14 towns, and has coal rights in
about 7,494 acres of valuable coal lands.
The total population of the territory
served is approximately 575,000.
Preperty: The physical property includes
three electric generating stations with an
aggregate installed normal capacity of
84,150 K. W.; 36 sub-stations with trans
former capacity of ever 95,000 K. W.;
207 miles of high tension transmission
lines; 316 miles of underground cable;
1,252 miles of low tension distributing
lines, and coal rights in about 7,494 acres
of valuable coal lands.
New Power Plant: The new Northeast
Power Plant, which has a present in
stalled capacity of 60,000 K. W., is one
of the most modern and efficient steam
generating stations in the country. The
capacity of this station is new being in
creased te 90,000 K. W as the demand
for power is far in excess of the present
installed capacity of the plants. The
plant is designed for an ultimate capac
ity of 240.000 K. W.
Growth of Business: The remarkable
growth of the business of Kansas City
Power and Light Company is indicated
by the increase in the power generated
and purchased from 94,864,382 kilowatt
hours in 1915 te 204,752,604 kilowatt
hours in 1921. Since 1919, the generating
capacity has been increased mere than
250 by the completion of the new
Northeast Power Plant.
Earnings: in the twelve months ended
May 31, 1922, the consolidating compa
nies reported surplus earnings, before de
preciation, equal te FOUR TIMES and
after depreciation, en the basis stipulated
in the first and refunding mortgage of
the Kansas City Power and Light Com
pany, te nearly THREE TIMES the an
nual dividend requirements of the 75,000
shares of First Preferred Stock, Series
"A," including these shares.
Valuation of Preperty: The total value
of the properties of the consolidating
companies, as recognized by the Public
Service Commission of Missouri for rate
making purposes, is in excess of $28,000.
000, in addition te which approximately
$4,000,000 has been expended en work in
progress, making a total value of ever
$32,000,000. This is approximately $13.
500,000 in excess of the total bended and
ether debt outstanding (after allowing
for current assets, etc.), a sum equal te
approximately $180 a share for the 75,000
shares of First Preferred Stock, Series
"A."
Power Centracts: With the approval of
the Public Service Commission of Mis
souri, all contracts with the larger power
consumers provide for adjustments in
rates te meet fluctuations in prices of
fuel, thus affording protection against
sudden and heavy increases in one of the
main items of cost.
Franchises: The franchise situation is
eminently satisfactory. The electric light
and power franchises both in Missouri
and Kansas are, in opinion of Company's
counsel, with miner exceptions, per
petual. Charter Previsions : The charter will con cen
tain unusually strong previsions for the
safeguarding of the First Preferred Stock.
