Wiled Clarence Peters, was seen by
Marvin Baker, of Mount KIrce, the
nliht of the murder, waiting near the
nlice Peters' body was found en the
bore of Kcnsice reservoir.
This car, or its twin, wan also seen
t the same spot three nights before the
hooting. On this occasion Mr. Jlakcr
ind a woman companion were returning
from White Plains in his roadster, and
the red car chased them for three miles.
Baker thinks be was mistaken for
Baker, who Is a grocery clerk, Is one
witness overlooked by everybody trying
te solve the case.
He and his friend had been te the
movies at White Plains en Friday
night and en driving abreast of Ken Ken
itce Dam they overtook a big maroon
ctr In which Baker said were five or
tlx persons, one of whom was a woman.
As Baker drove past them they shouted
le him te step. He was frightened ami
IPH en, the red car giving chase.
The next Sunday morning he returned
and searched the place where the big
ctr bad stepped. lie found a copy of
a New Yerk newspaper dated Saturday
itaincd with what he thought might be
bleed and having In it a Jagged hele
that might have been made by a bullet.
He also found n man's cap similar te
what Ward said Jack and Charley were.
The next time Baker passed the scene
he was returning from White Plains
again about midnight. A big red car
was parked en the roadside. Next
morning Peters' body was found thcre.

Stanley Hubbard, pilot of a prohibi
tion seaplane stntiened here, was
wounded In the hand Wednesday night
In a battle with a liquor beat off Cape
Flerida, It was learned today.
Hubbard said he was lying off the
cape about 11 o'clock watching for
liquor smugglers when the bent come
along. In response te his command te
pull in, the bent opened fire en his
plane with a rifle nnd a shotgun, he
Mid, one shot striking him in the hand.
Hubbard took te the air and his aides
opened fire with machlne guns, sending
ninety rounds into the beat. The beat
then disappeared along the cape nnd
the men in the piano wcre unable te
find It again. The const guard cutter
Vldctte went out yesterday, but re
ported today it had been uuuble te trace
thn craft.
This is the first battle between a pro
hibition plane nnd n liquor runner that
has taken place In these waters.
