Dublin. March 22. (By A. I'.) It
was elhchilly announced here today that
tin Irish Itepubllcan Army convention,
the holding of which was recently for
bidden b) Arthur Griffith, president of
the Dull Kireann, would be held In
Dublin Sunday, as arranged. The an
nouncement h taken here te mean that
a definite split in the Itepubllcan Army
has come.
According te Cemmaudant Rederick
O'Connor, director of engineering of
the hendiiunrteru staff of the Irish Re
publican Army, 80 per cent of the
nrinj's lm-nibers believe the uriny has
been "let down," nnd that the Dull
' Kireann hns been false te the Ropubll Republl
irii enth by agreeing te acccpftthe 111 111
fluslen of Ireland within the British
Empire.
O'Connor said the army convention
had been originally summoned with
the appieval of Richard Mulcahy, new
Minister of Defense in the Dall Cabi
net. He said the intention wns te
restore te the army Its old volunteer
constitution, under which It elected its
own executive. The constitution wus
abandoned when the Dall Elrcanu was
establishment ns the republican gev em -jnent
nnd the army swore allegiance te
It a 8 such.
Mulcahy, declared O'Connor, hud
Pledged himself In the Dall te maintain
the army as a republican organization.
Jut the pledge had been violated by the
invitations given the members of the
ami) te form the nucleus of the army of
the rrcc State, which O'Connor de-
ireii subverted the Republic. lie
Mid the army convention would be held
euiHlay, ns there was no Government in
Ireland at present te which the urmj
owed allegiance.
A resolution would he submitted te
the convention, said O'Connor, renew
ing allegiance te the Jrlsh Republic
ynil establishing an executive entitled te
"win orders te the Irish republican
tlHi' wl!lc'1' would then repudiate con
trol by the Dall.
