GIRL TO JOIN PLOW TO BIBLE IN FAR OFF INDIA Emily Gray Wins $500 Prize at State College and Plans Leng Trip Will Combine Missionary and Agricultural Teachings In Orient "I wouldn't make them listen te mc talk without showing them what I could ,le," sfild Miss Emily Ashton Gray when nsked why, ns n student of Agriculture, he plans te de missionary work In InM?ss Gray, of 3724 North Tenth street, who Is In her senior year at the Agricultural Scheel at Pcnn State Col lege, has been awarded a prlze of $500 by the Dairy and Husbandry Depart ment. The prlze was given for pro ficiency In agricultural work, nnd will enable Miss Gray te carry out her am- Twe years age this nnd slmllnr schol arships were established by P. M. Sharpies, of West Chester, In ten State agricultural colleges, te train women for dairy work. Slnce the award Emily Gray ha as siduously been studying cows nnd their care. "I've been milking them for the last few weeks, although we really don't have te de that," said Miss Gray. She leeks like a very modern and efficient milkmaid, with her short, bob bed hair and blue-cray eyes. "If 1 go te India, it will be much easier te take care of my hair If it is aert," she explained. The dream of going te India is nn old one, Miss Gray says. After she -raduatcd from the Gcrmantewn High Scheel in 1018, She went te State Col lege. The young student had always wanted te de missionary work, and her connection with the Student Volunteer Movement at State College further heightened this desire. She explained that the women in India de the large part of the agricultural work, and, thcrcfore, she believes the best way te reach these less fortunate women is en the ground they knew best. "The only way te de missionary 'work.'' she says, "Is te be of the people and llve and work with them." Before attempting te realize her am bition of going te India, there will have te be mere years of study, and perhaps n short time spent in teaching dairy work and husbandry here in the United States. An all-round girl is Miss Gray, nnd in spite of her joy at receiving the Sharpies prize of $500, she icmarkcd that "I am proudest of nil almost of having madq the hockey varsity team."
