Building In New Yerk City was head
quarters for prnctically nil Getham
vaudeville booking agencies, a shoo shoe
shining parlor en the first fleer of the
building wns n sort of rendezvous for
the employers of the two-n-day artists

In the llttle room, net because shines
were he much in demand, but because
two of the bootblacks, Italian, provided
unlimited-amusement for tliclr, patrons.
TlTc two boys, providing the amusement
were typical Italian bootblacks, who,
despite their broken English, Insisted en
discussing topics of the dnv and In
variably their arguments were as heated
as they were ludicrous.
One of the lads had "been ever" long
enough te gain a Mnattcrlng knowledge
of the American customs. The ether
was apparently fresh from the land of
grapes nnd sunsets. Kvcntually one of
the vaudeville booking agents conceived
the idea of putting the two boys Inte
vnudcvlllc with their original line of
afgtuncut such as featured their dally
routine In the sliec-sliinlne parlor.
The horn went en in "hie 'time" for
a week's trial, and at once made geed
with a -engeance, but when they came
te sign contracts for the fceasen the
vaudeville agent narrowly missed n
stroke of apoplexy when the bes named
the salary for which they would sign.
I'xpostulntie'ns and nrgument were in
vain, but rather than lese such splendid
drawing cards, the agent gave them
contracts at their own figure nnd a sen sen
sen's looking.
