Central High School will Inaugurate
the 11)21 football season nt Queen lane
wilh Penn Charter on September 80.
Lnst season, ns has been tho case wr
Fomc rears bock, the Mirrors nlso played
the opening game with the Quakcn,
The game which was ployed on ep
tembcr 2." will be remembered by fol
lowers of the two elevens, and also by
scholastic cnthusasts In general, as one
of the best school games of the past
season.
The Crimson nnd Cold failed to drop
a game In 1020, but If ever nenr defeat
they wen that day. The first quarter
wns without n seore. In the second
period, however, Central got away with
a short forward pass, and tho end car
ried the ball to the 3-yard line before
he was downed. Dirk Wells carried
tho pigskin over for the touchdown on
tbc next piny.
The third period also was scoreless,
neither team having any advantage over
the other,
Penn Charter opened up with a long
forward pass In the final stanza, and
caught the Central men by surprise. An
but one man, f.eno Pnvltt, was fooled
by tho play. He stopped tho fast end,
Hobby Statzell, brother of the l'eun
Charter Captain, on the 10-ynrd line,
and saved the game, as the tJuaKcrb
were unable to push the ball over.
To Play Bryn Athyn
A week after the Pen Charter game,
Dr. O'Brien will take his famous
aggregation to Bryn AUhyn to givo
battle to tho Academy team. This is a
new game on the Central High School
bdicdulc, but although Die Bryn Athyn
school nlwoys turns out a gwit team,
tbc famus tutor ii confident that his
proteges will conic through with a
victory.
The next game will be with the
Lower Mcrion High School aggrega
tion on October 1 1. and on October 21
tho first Inters-iiolastlc League game
for the Mirrors will be ttagcd at Frank
ford. This game might be n big surprise to
school football fans. The coaches up
nt Frankford have been keeping every
thing under their huts, so to speak,
nnd have not been glvlnji vent to any
predictions. No one knows just what
kind of material U on hand nt the Pio
neer School, and the team is a general
mystery.
On October 27 the (icrmantown High
School will he played nt CJcrmantown
in another league contest., and on No
vember 4 nnd 11, respectively, South
ern and West Philly will be met.
Tough B.ittlo
The last game mentioned promises to
bo tho hardest game on the Crimson
and Cold's schedule. The West Phlla
dclphia otitlook is the brightest In
years, and the Speedboys may pull the
unexpected and hand the Mirrors a
defeat.
Last season the Central crew went
through the season without having its
goal line crossed once until the bovs
from across Uie river were met. Herb
Buckley grabbed n forward pass in
tins contest, went down tne Held for a
touchdown, and made himself famous
over night.
The final game of the Central season
will be played at home with the old
rival, Northeast High.

Classic Today
MY REVERIE MAY WIN
Twenty-six two-yenr-olds nrc carded
to start in the $."0,000 Futurity at Bel
mont Park this afternoon, nil hlgh'y
bred colts and fillies. Three of tlm
stars nrc out of the race Miss Joy
nnd Morvlch being ineligible, and Knl
Sang bring out of condition.
Although Knl Sang is disabled, Hit
dreth's Rancocns stnblc will bo repre
sented. Wednesday ICal Rang pulled up so
sore after u trial that Trainer Hildrcth
abandoned all hopo of getting blm to
the post today.
The bottom fell out of Runcocns
slock its prospects for wMnrting the
$50,000 event becmed worth about $7,
but yesterday it rose until it again
ranks with the lenders, because the
racing rights of Surf Rider nnd Har
ridan have been obtained from John B.
Mnddcn forthe race.
My Reverie standi n fair chance of
winning the rich classic. Harry I'njne
Whitney nlso has n strong hand In the
race. Hanta Clara, Hun Rolgh and
Dream of Allah nro other high-c'nss
entries.
Major August Belmont, discuFsinj
today's big event, said yesterday: "It
Is fortunate that we hove a straight
course for the decision of such n race.
The event was born to be run over a
course, nnd all the years of its decision
at Bhecpshcnd Bay it wns contested
over a ground thnt insured a fnir chance
for every contestant. There was a
slight bend in the Coney Island Fu
turity course, which mitigated against
horses that bad jn outside position.
Here nt Belmont we have a course that
is as straight as a gun barrel, and the
best horse ought to win over it. It is
a great race and nothing that we can
do to ndd to its uttractiveness will be
neglected."
Sun Rclgh, the Kilmer Futurity hope,
was given his final trial beyond u short
pipe opener on Saturday morning, when
he breezed the full Futurity distance of
sir furlongs yesterday over the 'main
tratk in 1:171-5 with Kchsay in the
saddle.
My Piny, the Lexington Stable's
hope, was given a sharp speed test over
the Jamaica course and Indicated that
he will be nmong the first to depart on
Saturday, when Mnrs Cassidy gives the
word "Go!" My Play, breaking flat
footed from tde barrier, went the four
furlong distance in 47 1-5 seconds.
The Whitney Futurity candidates.
Whiskawny nnd Bunting, were given
their finnl workout yesterday, when
they went the six furlongs, hard urged
ut the end, in 1 :12. The effort, which
was calculated to tire them thoroughly,
accomplished Its purpose, and leaves no
doubt that they will be fit to run for
n king's ransom in the classic.

New York will bo the next objective;
of Sailor Friedman. The mariner front',

Friedman will finish up almost twe

the Madison Square Gnrden, he says,
"A bout with Leonard," explain
Friedman, "will be the subject of my.
meeting with Mr. Rickard.' '
.ia1, Ahinlf am the lightweight en--titled

after coming off tho road for the last

it anything, I am going to show even
more so that I stand out next to Leon-

more time In which to gradually get

I will be even in better shape. Thero
may have been some little doubt ns to
who won before, but on Monday nlgnt
there will be no question. I'll win
from hero to Chicago just watch me

One hundred nnd thirty-six pounds
at o clock on the afternoon of tho
contest Is the specified weight for tbo
Tcndler- Y rledmnn set-to. Tho sailor
just about came in under that scalo
for their previous battle, while Tcndler
weighed l.MVi.
There is nil borts of interest In the
return engagement, ns many fans still,
contend Friedman showed to advan
tage dver Tcndler a month ago. Tho
Sailpr came back with a great rally in
the lust few rounds nnd nftcr a terrific
pace finished stronger than the Phila
delphlan. However, the advantage of
Tcndler in the earlier sessions entitled
Lew to more than an even brenk.
Another incentive for Friedman io
w;In over Tendler is n $3500 nutomo

fight fans here in town, has threatened
to make me n present of n l,500
