"Just talk" amounts -to little, be it pessimistic, bearing down

Wheels are turning. If high prices form the reader's idea of good
times and prosperity, he is doomed to disappointment. Some things
have been selling disastrously low and will have to be brought up to
a live-and-let-live level; some other things we must still find ways of
producing at less cost. Today's averages are not far wrong-but the
whole list of commodity prices is a little humpy: too high or too low.
Furniture Sale Prices at Gimbels are About an Average
Half Below Last Year's
Except for further wise lessening of production costs these prices are disastrously low.
At that, there could not have been large selling had the public been unable to buy. But
The Public Was Furniture-Hungry and at the Gimbel Prices Could
Afford to Buy and Is Buying Tremendously
Our sales, in money-measure, are much larger than in any August of the
Store's history in measure of goods handled our furniture sales more than
double those of last August.
To be sure, Gimbel values have been good beyond precedent room,
apartment, bungalow or large house can be furnished to best advantage from
Gimbel stocks. The Store stands first in value-giving; clearly first.
Gimbel furniture every piece of it is thoroughly good and in good
taste. We had to learn to give the best in furniture to win the business of
hotels from ocean to ocean sumptuous hotels of palatial elegance, and good
hotels, both in cities and small places that required attractive treatment. In
every case it had to be furniture of good looks and unquestioned durability. It
has withstood the tests, and. most hotel furnishers depend on us entirely.
The wonderful economy of the August Sale is made more wonderful in
the remaining days of the month to completely end lots that, even at Gimbels,
cannot be continued at August prices.
