One hears the question asked ns to
what there Is In the commercial and
financial hituotlon at the moment that
may be expected to create bullish en
thusiasm stock markctwise. The iron
and Hteel' trade is In a demoralized
rondltlon, the leather industry Is bad,
the motor industry hns fallen off con

tors of cqunl Importance operating con

mentioned. . . ,
Money Is easy; the bond market, up
to within the last three or four days,
has been booming, nnd prlrr-s have ad
vntmiol n nnw hlzh rrrords for the pres
ent calendar year. The Indications arc
that there may be periodical stiffcnlngs
in money brought about by general in
creased demands from various sources,
including Government requirements,
etc., but over a period of tho next three
months or, for that matter, during the
entire remainder of the present rnlendar
year, bankers nssert money should be
comparatively easy.
This wtl act as a mellowing influence
because It will be possible to obtain
financial accommodation on n mot nd
rnntfleenuH bnsis. This is a factor
which should net favorably toward the
stock-market situation, if It may uc as
sumed that confidence will have been
restored to some extent.
llond men express the opinion that
the trend of prices will be upward and
that a long period of prosperity will
be- enjoyed in the trndc. The conten
tion Is made that as money becomes
more plentiful bond prices will soar be
cause of the necessity for full employ
ment of money at nil times. If funds
nre not needed for commercial pursuits,
the banks, naturally, will direct their
attention townrd the best Interest-bearing
investment issues which eventuully
must find prominent reflection in quota
tions. This chnroctcr of buying always
is larger than that of investors, but Is
of a more periodical chnrncter.

Copper Bottom Reached
The period of 12e coprcr has passed,
according to trade authorities, and
from now on better prices for the metal
are expected. Even at the new quota
tions thn larger copper sellers ar not
anxious to do much business, for they
believe that prices are too low nnd tlll
eventually move higher. They contend
that It is not good business for them to
dispose of any large-size lots at pre
Billn? prices when they realize thnt
consumers nre becoming nervous over
tho situation and arc preparing to pro
tect themselves. , .

Inquiries that are being made nre said
to be not to much to take cure of prcs

tendency on the I'nrt of many copper
consumers to accept present quotations

twelve months, nccuinpnnled with the
drastic adjustments both from n com

wreckage. The satisfactory cleaning, up
of this aftermath demonstrates beyond
dispute the thoroughly liquidated state
of the security markets. The Inter
mittent cropplng-out of forced selling
witnessed within the last fortnight
should not be confounded with the
mnjor movement experienced earlier In
the yenr. These operations nre the out

course, it requires uoin courage nnu
