i back again on the next reaction. Then
I from technical viewpoint it was unite
evident that u large part of the demand
1 at the high levels established yesterday
hud come from the covering of the
' widely advertised huge outstanding
hort Interest. In consequence, the
i trend of the market could be hardly
anything else hut unsettled and un
certain. Price tendencies were irregularly
higher at the opening, yesterday's rally
being for the mort part well sustained
or extended. Halls and oils were the
leading issues with food specialties and
utilities. American Telephone for
feited a part of yesterday's substantial
gain, but coppers continued to ease as
a result of adverse trade conditions.
Profit -taking and pressure from the
sticrts caused reactions throughout the
list within the first hour. American
Telephone was freely supplied at a 2
point decline, Harvester lost 1, Scars
Iloebuck, l'-j, and the oils, coppers and
leathers, 1 to l'.j. There was little
trading in rails, but that group also
yielded. I'nion Pacific falling 1 point
and New Orleans, Texas and Mexico,
l1'.. Moderate purchases of tobaccos
i and the cheaper rails resulted in varl
i able recoveries before noon, but this
was again oiiet ry tne neaviness or
specialties, particularly textile and
chemical issues.

Trading In the local stocks showed
little semblance of vigor attending yes
terday's operations. About the only
feature of comment apart from the re
current moderate selling of Pennsylva
nia Ilailroad stock and bonds was the
'continued freer supply of the Philadel
phia Electric issues. The oommon.
! however, was well supported at ye'ter
, day's bottom mark. 22, while the pre
ferred was fractionally lower ai -or.
About the only known cause for the
heaviness of the Philadelphia Kleetric
isMis was the renewed talk of the com
pany arranging some new financing In
the near future, which evidently will be
accomplished through additional offer
ing of the preferred ntoek Nothing of
ficial on the subject was obtainable, but
it is generally known tne company is .
in need of funds to pcrf-ct Improvement i
and betterment plans.
In Pennsylvania Itailroad there was
the same persistent feeding out of the

when the market shows slfns of satura-
tlon. This moderate liquidation brought
tho stock back to Soln arter opening at
It was u ca.e of fraction shading in
