Pari. Jan. 17. Little enthusiasm
Trns evinced today by the newsnniirrs
of this city over the new Itrlnud cab
inet, the degrees of appointment of
which were printed this morning in the
Official Journal Mot "f the Journals
expressed mild satisfaction or reserved
judgment.
The Journal ssld: "It contains
every element except slruon pure rojal
Ists nnd communists."
The Figaro, which ardentlv supported
former President Raymond IMncare for
the premiership, openly expressed its
disappointment, inning: 'It Is the
usual patchwork ministry nccording to
the pre-war formula,"
"We hnvc r new tn'nistry : shall we
have a new covernment?" the Ocuvrc
asks.
It Is probable the new ministry will
present Itself before tho Chamber of
Deputies Wednesday or Thursday, and
M. Urland will at that time read the
government' declaration of policy.
rrtmlw for Treaty Enforcement
The significance of the appointment
f,M. Brland as premier was not lost
upon the peonlc of this cltv They re
called his friendship with Georges
CUmencoftu, who, while head of the
French Government, assisted in frnmlng
the trentv of Versailles, and the close
ties uniting him with Iiavmond Poln
care, who has stood for the strict en
forcement of the Versailles pact.
Speaking before Parliament and in
committee meetings, M. Urland has In
sisted that the treaty must be carried
out and that the Interests of France in
the: Near Hast must be served. lie has
asserted French troons could not be
withdrawn from Cillcln at present be
cause such a step would be understood
by 'the Moslems as a sign of weakness,
and he Is known to havp viewed the
return of CoustanHne to the throne of
Greece as a circumstance which should
be .used to her profit by France.
M. Brland has been an advocate of
complete solldaritv between France,
Great Britain nnd the United States,
but has Insisted that France must dem
onstrate to the Allies that "her house is
In order and well administered."
The radical tendencies of the new
premier are subject of comment here.

ON EXHIBITION
IN PHILADELPHIA, FOR THE FIRST TIME
WE HAVE secured from New York that
splendid exhibit from the Hotel Com
modore, the new seven-passenger
Handley-Knight line, complete. This is the
motor car that caused so much favorable
talk at the New York Automobile Show last
week.
Unfortunately, there wasn't room to
place more than one car at the Philadelphia
Auto Show. However, through the courtesy
of the Overland Harper Company, we are
privileged to stage the entire Handley
Knight New York exhibit at 1629 Arch
Street.
Every lover of fine mechanism, every
Knight Motor enthusiast, every automobile
connoisseur who has awaited the arrival of
the utmost in driving and riding luxury is
invited to see the newest truly fine car the
first Handley-Knight exhibited in Philadel
phia. The makers of Handley-Knight deliber
ately assumed the task of catering to the
most fastidious class in motordom "fine
car owners who drive from choice."
With what broad understanding this
high ideal has been interpreted may now be
seen here.
The exalted rank of Handley-Knight
is at once established by its Knight Sleeve
Valve Motor, internationally famed for its
smooth, quiet, supple power and remarkable
freedom from mechanical attention.
This notable attribute of the motor was
extended to the entire car.
Its foundation is a frame reinforced
beyond all previous standards. The long,
self-snubbing springs of special steel assure
adequate cushioning of the mechanism as
well as supreme comfort.
Axles were especially designed for abso
lute safety and dependability. The best type
of steering gear on the market was improved
for Handley-Knight.
No detail escaped searching attention
to the end that Handley-Knight might be
the motor car worthy of "the fine-car owner
who drives from choice."
This is as true of the captivating ap
pearance of the Handley-Knight as of its
extraordinary performance.
Drive it -you will like it

The Joy of Big Power-
without the burden of big expense
Eighty horse-power in a Peerless Eight!
Yet, with all this in reserve, the Peerless Loaf
ing Range consumes only half fuel-rations
for city driving and all ordinary purposes.
The big, high-powered car built primarily for
speed wastes fuel at fifteen miles an hour.
The gentle, smooth car, built especially for
moderate running lacks power.
The Peerless Eight, with its half-rationed
' Loafing Range and its full-fed Sporting
Range, combines the distinctive virtues of both
these special types of cai" a trickle of power
for the city and boulevard; a torrent for hills
and the open road.
Will you let us show you these contrasting
power ranges in actual operation?
