vestigation of the lumber Industry, nnd
more paitlculnrly of the yellow pine In
duHtry In the South, Is being conducted
by the Department of Justice to deter
mine whether there have been violations
of the Sherman antitrust net.
This became known todny nfter the
federal trade commission had trans
mitted to Congress a copy of a report
on the nctlvities of orgnnlzntions of
lumber manufacturers, which it has
prepared at the request of the Depart
ment nf Justice. The Information wns
sent to the Sennit' nnd House on the
issumptloti by the commission that it
might be useful to the Senate commit
tee on housing nnd reconstruction, which
hns been investigating building costs
and other matters.

department's Inquiry into the lumber
industry was not directly connected with
the Luekwood building Investigation In
New ork. and ho indicated it had been
in progress for some time.
