SIMPLICllTf rrinrked the ball given

Southern Miillnx and cyhedliim ferns
were used In lavish profusion every

greens of every variety, and in each
bem wna n htiRC vase of chryxanthe
miimR, while ropes of Ktiillnx covered
the wall back of the boxes. The stage
was banked with small evergreen trees.
Huge vases were placed about the stage
arm were filled with chrystAnthemums.
Mrs. Harrison looked perfectly lovely.
Bhc Is a stunning-looking woman I
always think. Augustn was stun
ning, tee In a younger way, of
course, and eh, what a pretty dress
she had en I It was of the softest and
richest white satin and was made en
t Imple plain lines. Real lace was used
for the shoulder straps and also en the
bodice. Mrs, Harrison's gown was of
latin, tee, and very plain. It had a
hert train and the color was a creamy
sort of ecru, and with her golden
brown hair and lovely coloring, you
knew hew becoming that was. A buffet
supper was served at midnight and the
dancing continued till early this
morning.
There were a number of out-of-town-guests
and about 700 guests altogether.
THAT was a very pretty tea at the
Darrlngcrs yesterday when Sarah
ras Introduced by her father and
S ether, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Mereau
arrlngcr. Thev arc living nt 2105
Walnut street thin winter, you knew,
and the. tea was given there.
Sarah were a most unusual frock in
that it was made of a very rich pink
brocaded satin which had been worn by
her grandmother, and It was embroid
ered in pastel shades of cerise, green
and blue. The skirt was very artistic
ally draped and the corsage was adorned
with sliver ribbon. The bodice was cut
with a V neck and had no sleeves,,
A pink tulle sash was worn with the
frock and she carried American Deauty
loses,
Sarah is geed looking. She has dark
ks.tr and a very fair skin, and you knew
she is qulte a finished musician. She
pent last year in New Yerk studying
music. I remember hearing her play
t several of the junior muslcales and
the is decidedly talented. She is a
graduate of Miss llaldwln's Scheel.
Mrs. Barrldger looked well, I thought.
She were n beautiful gown of dark
blue velvet. The dress was trimmed
with blue beads and the skirt was draped
at the sides. She were also a short
train.
Among the girls I saw of the receiving
party were Pelly Thayer, Sephie Yar

The Coming War Between
the "Closed" and "Open" Shep
In the belief that the "open-shop" crusade is intended te undo everything union labor
has accomplished and te "feudalize America," the heads of the American Federation of Laber
are making war plans. These labor leaders agree "that a united front must be presented te these
attacks, and that every unwarranted attempt te reduce wages and working conditions te prewar
levels must be resisted with every legitimate weapon." Thus, as the Baltimore Sun notes, labor
and capital are lining up for a finish fight. The leading business interests "will bargain col
lectively with labor only when forced te de se" and "a concentrated campaign of the employers'
interests already has been launched against organized labor en the reaffirmation of the 'open
shop' principle and en the stand that wages must be reduced as part of the process of deflation."
The labor situation is probably the biggest problem that confronts the great mass of the
American people today, and as this article in the "DIGEST" this week November 27th
presents opinions from all sides, it will be read closely.
