1ETTER SHOPS
A BARGAIN, SO CALLED, ISN'T ALWAYS A BAR
GAINSOME ARE DEARER THAN GOODS AT
REGULAR PRICES. PAULETTE QUOTES ONLY
AUTHENTIC REDUCTIONS IN HER COLUMN.
Frem many interesting reductions in women's hose te
be had at the geed shop of B. F. Dewees, 1122 Chestnut,
this week, let me quete an important few. Fer example,
pure silk stockings, full fashioned, with mercerized ffarter
tops and soles, are reduced from $2.50 te $1.95. They
come in black, cordovan, African brown and Russia calf.
Handsome stockings for Christmas-giving are seme of
pure black silk, clocked in white, and also white clocked
with black. Formerly priced at $4.75, they nre new
only $3.50 a pair. Woolen sports hosiery in heather
mixtures, combining brown-and-black, grecn-and-black,
navy-nnd-brewn. Regularly $1.95, theso semi-fashioned
(nearly all sports woolens are pe) stockings are this
week, at Dewees', only ?1.25 a pair. In the children's
hosiery department there are also bargains Buch as
children's stockings, finely ribbed and mercerized, tn
black or cordovan, sizes 7 te 9, which nre this week
selling 3 pairs 'or $1.45, instead of the usual price of
85c a pair.
A certain smart little shop is having a sale of the most
authentic bargains ene could And in many a day's jour
nay through the reliable shops. Only seeing them will
convince you that such desirable frocks can be sold
for $30 think of it, $30, for really geed class llttle
models that the discriminating woman or girl would
delight in wearing! The shop happens te be Lilla's, at
1805 Walnut St., a little shop of reliability, courtesy
and absolutely nonprefitccring prices. The frocks in
this generous $30 assortment have been selling (I Baw
them originally priced) for from $46 te $60, and were
low at that, and most of them were nearer the $00
mark. There are tricetines, velveteens, satins and Geofl Geefl
gcttcs, mostly in 16 year sizes, and the fashions vary
widely, from tailored street models te the dressier after after
neon frocks. It's one of the best bu of the season, I
assure you. Personally, whenever I Tm in doubt about
purchasing a frock into Lilla's I drop, and when I non
out again my troubles are left behind.
Gee. Allen's shop, nt 1214 Chestnut, has become a very
satisfactory habit with me truly, ft is a shop of high
qualities, reasonable pricings and authentic reductions.
The impregnable Allen reputation stands back of every
purchase, this I knew. Just at present it is getting ready
its always interesting Christmas gifts $2 pewder glasses
for the dresser, covered with silk veiled in geld net and
wreathed with ribbon flowers; pretty, flat powder bowls,
somewhat larger, covered in blve or rose brocade at
$2.25; perfume bottles, f rocked in geld cloth te harmon
ize, $1.50 and $1.75, nnd a handy little silken pewder
bag with a puff buttem through which the powder sifts
when patted. This is $1.25. But don't pass Allen's
gleve counter, cither, without a peep. I honestly knew
of no glove counter in the city te equul it for quality
and value economically received. Just new they have a
marvelous rea' French dress glove, a Trofeusso over ever
seam model in tan, gray, white, black nnd navy, at a
temporary reduction, $3, instead of $4. These will make
handsome Christmas gifts. And these are but a few
suggestions.
Whin I dropped into Theodere Slefert's, that non-prefl-toeving
furrier, at 1426 Walnut Street, I slipped en a
dsrling cent and luxuriated in it just a few minutes of
make-believe that it was mine. It is only $000, remark
ably inexpensive nnd fashioned of beautlful moleskin.
It is n full, youthful model, loosely held In at the
wnistline by an unusually handseme heavy girdle of
hand-crocheted gray silk. It has a wonderful cellar in
which te bury one's nese and chin en freezing days, and
such graceful bell sleeves In which are concealed little silk
puff sleeves, called "wind shields," te prevent the air
from going up. The snug pocketa are warmly lined with
velvet nnd eh, tha luscious lining! Fer only $660 there
is n darling moleskin cape, one of the new models, made
effectively with reversed skins and hnving a deep inset
shoulder cape effect (being inset there is no added bulk)
of gray squirrel what a wenderful afternoon and eve
ning wrap it would mnkel There is a, mele cape similarly
inset with 'possum at the same price. These capes were
fashioned during the dull season, or they would be many
dollars mere. -
