musical trnditiens is the evident fact
thut Mr. Scott writes in this manner
because he wents te; there is no lack
of knowledge evident in his work either
in composition or in orchestration.
The concerto fellows concerto form
rather closely, but that is nbeut all
the relationship it has te the great
masterpiece of composition for pinne

and frequently utipleat-ant kind, although
there is much atmosphere te the second
(hIew) movement. The last movement
bepins in a clearly denned tonality,
only te be lest in a maze of dissonant
harmony later. The workmanship of
the concerto is of a high erder: the
value of the musical ideas may well be,

The orchestration of the concerto is i
original nnd net unnleasing, although I
there is a vcrv evident attempt (which
succeeds at times enlv tee well) te'
make the orchestra maintain the color
of the piano, with the result that there .
is practically no distinctive orchestral
color te the accompaniment. This Mr. '
Scott lins done by emitting the brass
instruments from the score und
usinp :i multitude of the mere unusual
instruments. Mich ax the celeste,
chimes, hells glockenspiel, harp, etc.
