WANT NEW PATROL Bl!LLS
Death of McAntee Causes Desire for
Louder Alarm Apparatus
The recent death of John McAntee, a
patrolman on the Thirty-ninth district
patrol wagon, has caused several of tho
police chauffeurs to make suggestions
tending to rep'ace the gongs on patrol
wagons with bells similar to those in
use on tbo fire apparatus. Patrolman
McAntee was killed in a collision with
another machine while he was' taking
nn'tnhtred man' to n hospital.
It is contended by patrolmen that
the gongs on patrol wagons are obso
lete. Tlioy declare that with a bell
of the type In uso on fire appnratus
(he sound would radiate and could be
heard more easily and distinctly by
other drivers approaching street inter
sections. pOH)Id DcOlsMadccvvTAl,
