will sail today with Miss Lucas on the

taken an apartment for .inn winter.
Thty will study and travel later for a
short time and return to this country
nest summer. Alberta Ilcath is another
clrl of the satrie age who will study in
Europe this year- before making her
debut next season.
It i' aplendld thing for them, I
think, for one Is certainly broadened
by tratel and study, especially when
properly directed, And while they are
all eitremely fascinating girls now,
they will doubtless add much to their
attractiveness by .a vislC to tho old

HAVE you heard that Amory Hnro
Oook is about to publish a book of
htr potms? 'She uses her maiden name,
Amory Hare; you know she is a daugh
ter of Dr. and Mrs. Uobart Amory
Hare, of 1801 Bpruce street. She mar
ried Commander Cook a number of
years ago,' and they had been stationed
near Philadelphia for some time re
cently, but now Commander Cook is la
cUargo of the U. 8. steamship Long oft
a roving mission. He was lately In
Venice and It now at Spalato.- Later
he will go farther cast." If. he is sta

any length of time Mrs. Cook will tako
her children and go to join bim ; Other

Mrs. Cook is very good looking, tall
and very graceful, lier rawer smaii
head and face are particularly Well
nlatsd on her shoulders and she has a
wealth of Sunny gold hair. Her
mother was Miss Kcba Pcmborton,
daughter of the latd Mr. Clifford Fern

Hlnner-rlano are out. Mrs. Downs
will give It at Fordbooke Farm at Three
Tuns, her country placo, on Monday
evening, Octpber 18, from 0 until 1
o'clock. I always like to nee new
Ideas in invitations. For instance,
stating wiien the dance will end is one
of tho first indications I have seen of
really living Up to the earlier hours for
parties, as was suggested last year by
many women and ass6clatlons. Mrs.
Downs states plainly from 0 until 1,
and that means the party ends at 1.
If all the hostesses would make such
plans I feel sure more men would find
it possible to attend parties and see
to business as well. Last year I re
member a great many men simply re
fused invitations except for Friday arid
Saturday nights, otherwise they were
not able to attend to business after
being up till 6, 6 or 7 in tbo mornings.
More power to Mrs. Downs, may others
follow her lead.
I HEARD a piece of news yesterday
that 1 will bo able to share with you
in a short while. It's an engagement.
f course, nnd it's an out-of-town girl
and a very attractive man, a man most
of us had thought had decided to live
out his life in single blessedness, but
It seems he's about to go tho way of all
men, so kedp your cars open. Soon the
tlmo will come for you to hear of It,
too. NANCY WYNNE.
