It will be of concrete and steel construction throughout and will be equipped with the most scien tific, labor-saving machinery. Commercial Truck Company has built another industrial lead ership for Philadelphia. It has made Philadelphia known as the home of the electric truck, for the past fourteen years. To quote from a statement by Mr. E. R. Whitney, President of Commercial Truck Company, is to make plain why Steele was chosen to design, build and equip their new plant. It explains why Steele is known as specialist in Philadelphia industrial construction: "The Commercial Truck Company began in 1906 to build electric trucks, starting in small quarters and in a modest way, but firm in the belief that this type of truck if properly designed and honestly built would make for itself a prominent place in city freight trans portation. "Regardless of varying fortunes the Company has never wav ered from its original determination nor from its faith in the future. "The demand for C-T electric trucks has continued to grow and the manufacturing facilities correspondingly increased until the present quarters have been expanded to their economic limit. "To.provide for more room and future gro vth, a new site, con sisting of 14'$ acres, located at Hunting Park avenue, American street and Rising Sun avenue, has been purchased, and the Wm. Steele & Sons Co. retained to make a comprehensive study of the company's requirements and to design a manufacturing plant that would enable us to look well into the future, and tlmt after build ing the first units would permit of expansion along definite and con sistent lines. T he plant that is now being constructed will more than double the present manufacturing capacity, will overcome the crowded condition that now exists and permit of increased economies. "Despite the high cost of building at this time and the predic tions of hard times ahead, we have an abiding faith in the future of this country and in the Cityof Philadelphia, and we have determined to go ahead with the construction of our new plant for the above rea sons and as tangible evidence of our confidence in the future of the electric truck as the most economical mode of transportation within the legitimate field. "A further motive to build at this time was a feeling of obliga tion to qur many good customers. "We are therefore going ahead as a guaranty to those who have put their confidence in us, that the equipment we have made for them would be properly backed up and continue to serve them for its full term of years, and which will be assured by the future stability of this company and with a properly designed and equipped plant and a new permanent home. "Its increased and improved facilities will enable this Company to take its proper place among the industries which together make and maintain Philadelphia "The Workshop of the World.' " This statement is proof of our contention that Steele is chosen not merely to build industrial buildings of utmost efficiency, but to design, construct and equip plants that will increase production, re duce cost and be capable of expansion without a great deal of addi tional expense. Knowing Philadelphia and knowing your industry thoroughly, Steele is able to look and plan ahead for your particular business. That's why Steele stands foremost as Philadelphia's industrial builder. In our 56 years in business we have designed and built factories in Philadelphia in more than a hundred different lines of industry. If you are a manufacturer thinking of building, adding to or rebuilding your factory, consult Steele first Hundreds of manufacturers who consulted Steele have bene fited, why not you? Write for an interview. It does not obligate you in any way. I This is a reproduction of one of the fleet of 212 C-T Electric Trucks owned by American Railway Express.
