Florence Nightingale) If this 1b true, and who will doubt It. what an entirely satisfactory work Is nursing, and yet how neces sary that we remember wo are dealing with somethlnS 'hat requires not only our energy, our interest and our skill, but our deop reverence and highest thoughts? A young poet killed In Prance, wrote. "Like the statue In Michael Angclo's lump of marble, thero Is a friend In every pnsserby, and in one thero may bo a n8W Christ," nnd so thero may bo In any human being. What Dr. S. Weir Mitchell says of the physician Is true also of the nurse: "He boIIs that which men neither weigh, nor measure, and this sets him over all profeoslons save one. and far above all forms of mere business. "What suoh a life makes of a man is largely a question of original character, but In n.o other form of occupation Is there such constant food useful to develop all that Is best and noblest." The highest typo only of healthy young womanhood should take up this work, for It Is certainly the highest given to any woman to do. What can be greater thnn by skill and knowledge to help fan the feeble spark of life to the bright flame of health: to make the stiff arm supple and strong; to tide the Typhoid or the Pneumonia patient past the danger post ; to give back to the children, tho mother who almost crossed tho dark river; and to save the baby with all life's road before him. Nothing con adequately pay for the skill which has brought to the bedside renewed strength, and perhaps even the "sweet boon of life?"
