The conflicting currents were the nat
ural outcome of the confusion of sen
timent provoked by increasing disturb
ing elements which have crept into the
situation.

ing that yesterday's violent shakedown

At the outset it looked as though

movement had for the time being, at
least, spent its fore. In fact, here and
there through the list ample testimony

the market and the preponderance of

secondary reactionary movement like
wise soon spent its force, the decline
in a measure being checked by the
more reassuring advices from abroad on (
the Pollsh-Husslan situation Hut the
more potent influence in turning the '
list upward again was the inability of
the hour crowd to uncover furtber weak ,
spots and the failure to dislodge any
considerable amount of long stock.
Another contributing stearying influ
ence was the buying of round amounts
of the leading railroad stocks, which ,
tdvanccd 1 to UV... points, indicating '
the replacement of the same coucen- ,
trated support from the powerful bank
ing interests as noted on Tuesday. Tlie

support created uneasiness among the
bear crowd anil Miere was at once a
hasty shifting and a free covering move
ment set in which gained considerable
momentum by the early afternoon. '
Kurly weak features rebounded i

points above yesterday's closing. Dela
ware. Lackawanna aud Western came

of a sensational advance of -1 points

coal properties would be segregated. I
The forced selling of Middle States Oil I
seemed to hac been about completed. ,
ulthough one firm dumped "0,1(00 shares ,
on the market during the morning,
which forced the stork to react from
V2M to U1'!, which was the low price
of the day.
