without being noticed by Peggy nnd
Billy, It was very dark among the
bushes whoro they were hiding with
Jtldgo Owl, Judge 0vl liked It that way.
His eyes wero made for hunting at night,
and things wore as plain ns day to him.
"Hool Hoo! I'll show you tho way
through tho woods to the place where
I'm going to catch my unknown enemy,"
he hooted softly. He set off ahead of
Peggy nnd Billy nnd wns soon out of
sight nnd hearing.
"Hero, here, Judge Owl, como bnck !"
cried Billy, after he nnd Peggy had tried
In vain to follow him
"Hoo! Hoo! Aro you blind after 4
o'clock?" chuckled Judge Owl, much
pleased because he now had the better
of Peggy nnd Billy In tho matter of
seeing. Usually It was the other way
around.

Peggy and Billy each a claw to hold,
while he fluttered along between them.
In this way thoy finally came to the
edge of the woods, nml saw tho lights
of a farmhouse not far away.
"Hoo! Hoo! We will wait here until
dawn," nald Judge Owl "I do not be
lieve my enemy la a night bird, but a
day bird who gets up very early In the

turn gray In the East.
"Hurry! Hurry!" whispered Judge
Owl, and he led them through the dusky
dAwn to tho chicken coop of tho farm.
They got behind an apple tree so
they could watch the chicken coop door,
without being noticed by any one who
might come.
"Sh-h-h-h!" hissed Judge Owl, "I
see something coming I"
Peggy and Billy couldn't nee ft thing Iff
tho gloom, but nfter a moment they
heard the beat of wings. Then of a
sudden they caught a glimpse of a large,
dark bird flying about tho roof of the
chicken coop.
Now this chicken coop had once been
th klteheir of nn old houso, and It still
hud a chimney sticking up through the
roof. As tho dark bird flew about the
roor. it suddenly went down tho chimney
"Now, quick, put something over the
top of the chimney," hissed Judro Onl
"We'll catch tho chicken stealer."
Billy picked up a piece of board, nnd
with It In his hand climbed tho apple
tree, creeping out on a. limb until r
could get on the roof. Once there he
clapped the board over the top of the
chimney, and the dark bird uas n
prisoner. Billy then slid down the tree.
From tho chicken coop there cm me a
startled "Pawl"
Judgo Owl chuckled. "It's t'aw-Paw
Prow. I was sure he was the chicken
stealer. That Is why ho tried to throw
