A Railroad Bond
if. tfTO rtn n 19 PA Tr-ti TRnci'o
" ,. . .
We suggest the 67
Gold Bond of an im
portant railway for
' semi - speculative in
vestment purposes.
The road is one of the
few that earned more
than the government
guarantee during
1919. There is every
reason to believe that '
under the Esch-Cum-mins
Law the position
of the road will be ma
terially strengthened.

New Ynrll. .Tllltf O Tl, hntter feel .
Inc manifested In market circles In the
two preceding sessions wns again
"tropgly In evidence In today's stock
market: first, reflected In a nominal
increase of business over that of recent
days and secondly, in an appreciable
and encouraging improvement in prices,
It was Indicated In a leaser way lis
reason of the slight Influx in outlde
buying orders nnd also in the right-abotit-facp
turn in the. tone of the
market letters of the leading wire
houses.
While stocks rose cotton broke more
than ij .-ent n pound on a benrMi
government condition report which esti
mated the condition at 70.7 on June 2."
as ngnlnst (JIM on May 2.". an uniisu
ally good improvement in the crop.
Ilierc wns nothing pnrtlctilarl.v in
vigorating In the over-night develop
ments or in the morning news that
would account for the reversal of the
market sentiment. However, there
"as a fuiriy coulident belief that the
peak of the credit strain had been
seen nnd safely bridged over. In truth,
the majority were safely counting upon
a materlul easement of money conditions
In the next few weeks. It was ligured
that n large percentage of the huge July
disbursements would quickly find a way
bnck to the depository institutions
through the regular channels.
It was nlso pointed out that when the
street resumed business on Tuesday tlie
Democratic convention would be a
matter of history. Judging from what
little Jacksonlau followers havo done
so far, there was. in the opinion of
Wall street, little to bo fenrcd from the
party in the forthcoming election.
Everything thus far agreed unon onlv
appeored to cinch the election of the
Uepublicun candidate.
Sentimentally the market derived it
strongest bacli log on the relative easier
state of the call money uiurktt. Not
only were the call loan renewals made
at 10 per cent, but mot all thu loans
earrjing over until Tuesday were mndo
at that rate. The more liberal supply
of funds was indica'cd in the Minding
of the rate in the afternoon to 8 -per
cent after the most of the day's require
ments had been provided.
Several stocks stood out proinlnentlv
in the day's trading, u point of special
strength being Haldwin Locoinotiic,
nnd nlso (Jerman-Amcrienn Tnnk. Hut
nenrly nil the equipments nnd steel
shares continued to display notable
strength, which was entirely logical in
view of the prospective large expendi
tures that soon must be made by the
country's transportation lines. To n
large extent the day's operations repre
sented the fnmilin'.' evening up opera
tions of the professional element. This
accounted for the irregular aspect of
the market nt different intervals, but ot
all times the undertone was one of de
cided sMengtli.
Advances of n point in Haldwin Lo
comotive, Mexican Petroleum and
Middle States Oil and fractional reces
sions in several of the high-grade mils,
American C'nn and the Coppers, meas
ured the extent of the irregular move
ment of prices at the opening. The ef
fect of the coming holidays was ap
parent in the smnll attendance of mem
bers of the exchange and the very light
business reported by commission houses
from out-of-town sources.
Aside from 11 nominal increase of
business over that of recent days, the
market held to its irregular and re
stricted course during the morning.
Dealings embraced scarcely more than
a score of the usual leaders, among
which Haldwin, Mexican Petroleum,
Vuuadium, Republic Iron, American
International, Atlantic tiulf and Marine
preferred were most prominent nt ex
treme gains of 1 to 2 points.
Oils and textiles represented the con
structive side of the market at midday,
steels, equipment", shipping nnd rails
showing little change. Hume of the
recent favorites among specialties, notu
bly Uarrctt nud u.N'tionul Aniline, were
heavy, reacting I'., to .". points. The
feature of tin bond market was the
further advance of Ilelginn 7'js to par.
Kxchunge on London was firmer on
moderate buj ing of demand bills.
Oils, steels, shippings and rails led
the list to best prn es of the ilny in the
final hour. Shorts covered urgently on
call money's decline to S per cent.
