Let the Government Simplify Taxing
Laws and Goods Can be Sold Still Lower
Present forms of taxation are as obsolete as Confederate paper money. They
bring in much money at a dreadful cost to the great body of people.
Fewer forms of taxation, and they direct and positive, would yield revenue and
take from business the absolute need for a safety mark-up to meet tax eventual
ities. No one thinks for a moment that sane business will be conducted with undue
risk of absolute loss or failure. If a business reaches a certain turn-out, the in
come tax is a stated percentage and can be figured on. If extra exertion brings
larger business the tax expands and only a safety margin of profit otherwise un
necessary saves the business from losing nearly all its profits to the tax collector.
A manufacturer stopped work in mid- October because to run till end of December
would put h!.m in a tax class that would eat up his living.

and Permanent Lowering of Prices to That Extent Only is
