Bolsheviki Force Poles to Retire
to Jitomir Dnieper Bridgos '
Destroyed 1
RUSSIANS ARE RE-ENFORCED
By the Associated Press
Warsaw, June 14. The evacuation
of Kiev has been completed, the Poles
withdrawing to the region of Jitomir.
The American Ked Cross workers, ac-
ording to latest accounts, had made
preparations to evacuate Kiev with
the army.
The evacuation of Kiev was re
ported unofficially from London Sat
urday. Xews of the evacuation of Kiev
reached Warsaw Saturday night, which
was the first report from Kiev in sev
eral days. Just prior to the cutting
off of comniunieafion bv the Bolshe
vists, General Rdzmig1y. the com
mander at Kie . sent a dispatch that
he would make a stand unless other
wise ordered. With difficulty the Poles
got through a personal order from
General Pllsudski. the commaniifi-m-chief,
to the Kiev commander to evac
uate immediately
General Budeunv the Russian com
mander who fought against Penikine.
N bringing up re enforcement", the
dispatches s.n but the military au
thorities assert the fipht for Kiev is
not yet ended bv anv means.
Before evacuating Kiev, the Poles
destroyed the bridges over the Dnieper.
London, June 14. (By A. P.)
Persia's appeal for protection against
Russian Bolshevik aggression was ex
pected to be one of the first subjects
discussed by the Council of the League
of Nations at the opening of its execu
tive session in St. James Palace late
this afternoon. The sessions w.111 con
tinue for two days, with the probability
that the bare outlines of the conclusions
reached will be announced Wednesday.
In view of the hands-nff policy of the
council with regard to the Polish of
fensive, it is considered bv some ob
servers of the trend of affairs that the
Persian situation raised a problem al
most impossible for the council, as
constituted at present to solve.
General Smiglc.v's letreat before the
Bolsheviki in I'kraine has been exe
cuted in perfect order, according to
army headquarters hero The advance
of the BoKhcviki upon Crcrnobvk forced
the retreat.
