The real danger of sluggish gasoline
What more and mqre motorists are discovering
about the fuel they feed their cars
The chief cause of engine trouble on the road
STALLED on the roadmiles from
home engine overheated perhaps
a burned-out bearing. Almost every
motoristhas had such an experience as this.
Yet many motorists drive for thousands
of miles without putting a wrench or a
screwdriver to the engine. These are the
men who know the dangers of sluggisn
gasoline.
Sluggish gasoline, say the experts, is
one of the most important causes of en
gine trouble in the modern, perfected
automobile. Ordinary low-grade gasoline
vaporizes slowly. It requires a rich,
wasteful mixture only 8 parts of air to
1 part of gasoline. ,
Such fuel in your tank contaminates
the lubricating oil. Thinned down oil
enters the explosive chambers carbon
forms rapidly, bearings wear our. That's
when you are liable to trouble on the
roadside and to expensive engine repairs.

How to make 15 to 1 adjustment
After filling the gasoline tank with
Tydol, run the engine until warm.
Then lift the hood.
Turn the gas adjustment on the car
buretor, decreasing gradually the flow
of gasoline.
When the engine begins to slow
down, turn the gas adjustment back,
increasing the flow slightly until you
get a maximum engine speed.
This will give you the 15 to 1 adjust
ment. If you have a ' 'rich" and ' 'lean' '
adjustment on the dashboard you can
use an even leaner adjustment than
the above.
On hills and in traffic use the rich
dash adjustment: on the level or,m
the country use the lean.
This assures maximum mileage and
minimum carbon with Tydol.
Tydol will operate on the rioh mix
ture needed by inferior gasoline. But
Tydol is made so you can use the 15 to
1 mixture less fuel and more air.
WITH the rich 8 to 1 mixture,
which ordinary low-grade gaso
line requires, your car soon be
gins to knock and slow down on the hills.
Soon it is slow to start in traffic. You
are left behind in the traffic jams.
A large part of such gasoline fails to
vaporize at all. You can't get pulling
power out of it It burns slowly, forming
great plates of carbon. It pits the values.
Pitted valves fail to close properly. The
power rushes past them like smoke out
of a chimney. On almost every hill you
take a running start and often have to
shift into second before you reach the top.

mixture floods the crankcase with
unburned fuel.

Carbon forms rapidly. Bearings are
soon worn and burned out. Because
