Vaudeville Managers Held Not In
Restraint of Trade
Tho Fcdcrnl Trade Commission has
handed down a unanimous -decision thnt
no illegal combination of vaudeville
houses existed.
In dcclnriug that there was no trust
among amusement houses tho commis
sion issued nn order dismissing tho com
plaint containing, tho allegations. The
result is a victory for tho Vaudeville
Managers' Protective Association, the
. F. Keith Vuudcvillo Bxchnngc, the
is. b Keith Circuit, tho Ornheum Cir
cuit and others, controlling or repre
senting hundreds of'vnudcvillo theatres.
Tho order stated that tho commission
found no violntlon of tho Clayton act or
any other lnw.
Tho case was argued before tho com
mission nbout n mouth ago. Tho vaude
ville managers were-represented by cx
Gorcrnor Folk, of Missouri, and
Maurice Goodman, of Now York. K. F.
Albcc, chief owner in ,tlio JCcith Cir
cuit nnd president of tho Keith Lx-
Lchangc, was uctlvo in tho case.
Tho controversy had Its origin in dif
ferences between nn actor's organiza
tion known as the White Hats and the
vaudeville managers. Tho White Itats
demanded that no persons be engaged
as actors except members of their or
ganization. Upon the refusnl of the
managers to accede to this demand there
was n strike of the White Rats through
out tho country about threo years, ago.
The complaint before tho commission
followed.
MASK AND WIG SHOW
The Mask and Wig's thirty-second
annual production, "Don Quixote,
Esquire, " will bo shown nt tho Forrest
next week. Three hundred and eighty
two men came out for the production,
and only sixty-five men wcro available
for cast and chorus. Charles S. Mor
gan, stage manager, had unusual op
portunities to select a. cast. Charles
Gilpin, musical director, lias written
fifteen original numbers, instead of fol
lowing the custom of "borrowing" from
current muslcnl comedies. Edwin M.
Lavino has designed costumes, tho locnlo
of Spain giving Mr. Lavino an oppor
tunity for picturesque coloring.
A spccinlty in the second act, enti
tled "Alnddin," aims to reach the club s
high-water mark for costuming nnd
lighting."
