New York. March IS. There m
another broad and buoyant xtock mar
ket tf:lar. with mimcrotw oxiitiiiK and
violent price movements. Tlic forward
owing from the very outset axsumeil
wider and more impressive proportions,
and nlmott every clnss of stocks par
ticipated some time during the cession
in the bis buy In? movement. The great
est htieugth v.as again shown by shares
of companies which nre expected to
declare vtock dividends in the near
future. Including the leading motors,
steels, railway equipment, lenthers. tex
tiles mill chemicals. The speculative
iMitliuiain was not conllned to these
pnrtlcii'ar shares; on the contrurv. It
reached out to nearly all parts of the
list, embracing the railroad shares and
n number of usually obscure issues.
The rnnid pace set at the opening
with initial advances of 2 to 8 points
un well maintained throughout the
forenoon, extensive short covering add
ing to the enormous turnover. The bear
'crowd aptiurently were completely stutt
,neil by the sudden reversal of the mar
ket jpstenlny am innde frantic efforts
to reduce their extensive short lines,
but buying orders were In practically
'all the importnnt groups from the
strongest speculative interests on the
street and this accumulation practicn'ly
exhausted the supply, giving the shorts
little opportunity to cover. '
It was among the closely held pool
issues the bear crowd suffered the se
verest punishment. This was strikingly
illustrated in the sensational advnnce of
S'j points in Stitta Motors on the ton
of yestcrda.x '. gain of 17'.' points. Other
noteworthy features included Oeneral
Motors. Pierce Arrow. Motor Acres
ories. American Woolen. American
fan, New York Air llrnkc. Republic,
Crucible. Vanadium and l S. Steels.
Atlantic CJulf and West Indies. United
Kruit. Central Leather, Texas Co. and
Utah Copper at gains of .! to Id
noints. Italdwin Locomotive in the
open lint bulge advanced to 1".7'. hut
'ost all the Ruin. A renewal rate of 7
per cent for call tnonej gave freh
liiiiuliis to broad boxing movement.
