movement in all the lending groups, tho
demnnd coming not only from important
sources, , but also from commission
houses, generally indicating increas
ing outside speculative Interest.
Tho Rtocls were among the impor
tant features, United Stutes Steel mov
ing up to 101 and both Hepublic ond
Baldwin made gains of over 1 point.
The railroad utocks wero active and
strong, St. Paul ndvnncing 2 points
to 42, and Southern Pacific. Beading,
New York Central and Baltimore and
Olila made gains of over 1 point.
There was continued strength also
In the copper stocks, Anucondti open
ing -up nt 0091, and Americnn
Smelting showing n gain at the opening
of 1 point at (18.
Motor stocks also moved to higher
levels, General Motors leading with a
gain of 11 points to .,52."1,!. while Studc
bakcr followed with nn advance of -1
points to 00.
Mexican Petroleum led the oils in an
ndvnnce of 1 to 1SDV.. Middle States
Oil rose lb to B3Vy. International
Paper was another feature advancing
