According to Colonel T. I. Ilhoades,

camp surgeon, three men wcro dis
covered who apparently in normal health
wero nctlng as carriers of tho disease.
They wcro isolated, their throats treated
and given diphtheria antitoxin nnd
later returned to duty as cured.
Following their isolation only ono
caso of diphtheria was reported.
Of tho twenty-seven cases in the
camp of G00O men, twenty-three have
already returned to duty and four cases
still under treatment aro almost well.'
"There aro diseaso carriers in every
community," said Colonel Ilhoades to
day, "and unless they aro treated they
might be ns permanent spreads of germs
as v.as 'Typhoid Mary But In camp
wo discovered them nt onco, and wo
think onr record is excellent in curbing
tho disease and successfully treating all
cases."
Workman Hurt In Fall From Ladder
Charles Lens, forty-six years old,
of 4360 North Eighth street, was seri
ously injured when a ladder on which
bo was working slipped und he fell from
tho root of a house at 4152 Franklin
street, late yesterday afternoon. His
skull and left kneecap were fractured In
the fall to tho pavement, and ho was
taken to St. Luko's Hospital, whero bo
is in a serious condition. .

Plans for raising a fund to estab
lish a permanent clubhouse for the
alumnt of tho Northeast High School

Rittenhouso Hotel.
A motion that tho class start tho
fund by n contribution of $100 was car
ried, and as there nro already fifty
graduate classes, it as assumed that
within a very short tlmo n sum of $5000
would be available for the purchase of

bo presented to tho executive board of
tho alumni at its next" meeting on
Mnrch 10. It was announced that the
proceeds of the annual smoker of the
alumni, held recently, amounted to 'ap
proximately $1000. This sum will bo
donated to tho school athletic fund.

for the new assembly hall at the high
