Theso bonds aro a direct obligation of tho
Greater Winnipeg; Water District, a corpora
tion constituted by Special Act of tho
Manitoba Legislature, with powers to con
struct and operate a waterworks system to
sorve Greater Winnipeg. Tho District com
prises the City of Winnipeg and its more
important suburbs, with a total area of 91.79
square miles, and a combined population of
approximately 221,000. Tho bonds are a
direct charge on all the taxable land within
the District, tho assessed valuation being in
excess of $181,292,080. The taxes levied by
the District rank equally with all taxes raised
for other municipal purposes, and are collected
at the same time and in the .samo manner.
Tho bonds arc additionally secured by tho
hypothecation with the Bank of Montreal of
$2,500,000 (618.698) long-term Sinking
Fund securities of the District, which are a
first charge on tho entire waterworks system
and properties of the District Tho total
outstanding debenture debt of tho District
(including tho present issue) is $14,182,012.
