At the present rate of Belgian exchange (February 28th, 13.75 francs to the dollar) a 500-franc bond would cost about $36.36; whereas with francs at the mint par of exchange (5.18 francs to the dollar) the bond would be worth at par about $96.50. Should exchange return to par, an nual interest of 25 francs per 500 franc bond would be equivalent to $4.82 or about 13 return on the present dollar investment. At the Government's option the entire issue is callable after May 15, 1940, at a premium reduced by 5 per annum discounted for the average life of the bonds outstanding.
