MANTELL AS LEAR "Romeo and Juliet" Matinee Brings Youthful Interpreters Mr. Mnntell's company appeared in two Shakespearean revivals yesterday at the Broad. In the evening the star re peated his impersonation of King Lear, one Of his most effective roles, from every standpoint. In the afternoon he yielded the Rtage to Genevieve Hamper (Mrs. Mantel) und his leading man. Fritz Leiber, wh'o were seen ns the star crossed lovers of "Romeo and Juliet." Tho tragedian witnessed tho matinee performance from a box, and his ap plause was as earnest nnd profuse ns that of the enthusiastic audience. The testimony of approval was well deserved for the incumbents of the roles brought, in the case of Miss Hamper, illusive grace and araciousness and n vouthful- ness ofi aspect and bearing not usual nmong the mature Juliets of recent sea sons; nnd in the cose of Mr. Leiber, nn abounding vitality and exuberant ro mance that made his love nnd its tragic issue very poignant and moving. The distraught and maniac king of legendary Britain, turned to madness by filial ingratitude, offers a character most admirably adapted to tho robustious method and traditional romanticism of Mr. Mnntell's typical acting. It is regal in its nugust passages and pitiful in its depiction of the weary and dis illusioned old man. The nudience was jmuch impressed bv the star's command of expedients and effects, and by the dramatic variety of his interpretation. The Kent of John Alexander and the Fool, of Guy Lindsley were outstanding in ins support. ROXBOROUGH Mrs. Charles Martyn, of East Wal nut lane, is passing bopie time in Flem ington, K. The demand for anything and everything furry prior lo the start of the war in 191U has carried the prices of nil skins to top notch and would, without doubt, have ex terminated most fur-bearing animals, including fisher, had not millions of men been occupied with the killing of each , .Iff", 0tl'Cr- ,3ft The fisher is the largest member of the marten or tabic family, and is found in Canada, the Lake Superior region, northern New York and occasionally in Pennsyl tania. This animal is slender of body, has a' long pointed head, short limbs and a long and very furry tail; its fur is dense and of good color, but shorter than the fur of the marten. Maity variations are noticeable in its fur, which is generally of a blackish hue tvith a greyish tinge on the head and shoulders; some specimens are brown on the back and grey on the aides; others are a paler shade of brown, and a few have a white spot at the throat. The fur of the fisher, aside from being in fashion in America and Paris, found a ready market in Russia, where it was used for the making of costly robes, ladies' hats, etc. Fisher tail trimming is also very popular at times. Fashion quite naturally determines the price nf these gkins and in 1906, when fisher ivas only moderately fash ionable, dark raw skins brought fifteen to thirty dollars; since that time they have steadily risen in price, witil today a first-claas fisher skin in the market will bring from two hundred and fifty dollars to three hundred dollars.
