larger transactions than for the cor
responding period of any preceding year.
They asserted that if the remainder of
the year continues as active 1920 will
surpass even 1919, the record year in
the Jewelry Industry.
Following cloaely the tendency of hide
markets, movements In the leather trade
have been In the direction of diminished
activity of business and lessened
strength of prices.

Glass Co. First Morteas-e 7 Bonds due 1038, secured on tho Ottawa, Illinois, plant
National Plate Glass Company proposes to acquire three plate glass factories having a
capacity of 11,000,000 square feet of plate glass annually.
Fisher Body Corporation (60 of whose common 3tock is owned by General Motors
Corporation) will make a cash investment of over $4,000,000 in the Preferred
and all of the Common Stock of the National Plate Glass Company and will enter
into a ten-year contract to pay annually to the National Company sufficient com
pensation to provide minimum net earnings, after Federal Taxes, equal to maturing
installments of and accruing interest on these Notes and in addition accruing divi
dend and sinking fund requirements of the Preferred Stock.
Consolidated Earnings, before depreciation, of companies to be acquired, are reported
by Day & Zimmermann, Inc., as averaging for the past four years 3 times total
interest requirements, and for 1919 over 5V4 times. Day & Zimmertnajui esti
mate that net earnings before depreciation, available for interest in 1920 will exceed
$3,000,000.
The Trust Agreement will provide, among other things, that as long as any of these
Notes are outstanding: (1) No mortgage shall be created on any of the property
now being acquired; (2) No obligations maturing one year or more from date of issue
may be created; (3) 'No dividends shall be declared or paid on the Common
Stock.

Philadelphia and are specially secured by title to 400 new steel underframe
tank cars of 8,000-gallons capacity each, costing- $990,000, against which
certificates amounting to $720,000 are issued, the balance of $270,000 being
paid in cash by the Company. Title to equipment remains with the Trus
tee until the last installment has been paid.
Guaranteed for principal and dividends by the Caddo Central Oil and
Refining Company, which corporation has outstanding $15,000,000 of stock
listed on the New York Exchange. The Company owns extensive oil and
gas lands and leaseholds in the States of Louisiana and Arkansas, aggregat
ing 54,000 acres, of which more than 3.5,000 acres are owned in fee.
Guaranteed for principal and dividends by the Standard Tank Car Com
pany, which corporation is one of the largest producers of tank cars in
the United States, with plant located at Sharon, Pennsylvania. If also
operates a tank line and at this time has about 1600 cars under lease. This
Company has an outstanding Capital Stock of $3,000,000 Preferred, selling
at $100 per share, and 100,000 shares Common without par value, selling
at about $50 per share, representing an equity of approximately $8,000,000.
