TEXTILE MILLS ARE BUSY
Good Demand for Worsted Yarns
From Both Knitters and Weavers
Textile mills arc busy, with n jrood
demand for their products, according
to the weekly review of trade for tho
Philadelphia district by R. G. Dun &
Co.
In the cotton yarn markets there has
been virtually no change in prices com
pared with previous week, the market
being firm and steady. AVIiile manu
facturers report that they are busy,
tnc demand is tno&Hy for knitting yarns.
In tlic worsted yarn market there is
a good demand for yarns from both
knitters and weavers. Trices arc strong
and steady.
The review, continuing, goes on to
say:
"Jobbers in hosiery, underwear and
knit goods are somewhat apprehensive
as to obtaining goods which they have
on order for future delivery. It has
been stated that u foreign nation has
placed orders for a large amount of knit
goods for ne.t fall dolivcrj ; it is the
opinion of fome of the local jobbers
thnt they will not In- able to ft full
supplies. The market is high.
"Jobbers in cottons, woolens and
silks state that the trade is buying spar
ingly : however, there continues to be
considerable trading among jobbers and
prices are high.
"Manufacturers of cloaks and suits
state they find busiuess quiet and the
trade buying sparingly. There is a
little more activity amouc the dress
manufacturers. Shirtwaist manufactur
ers report business very quiet for sev
eral months. There, however, has
been a slight decrease iu sale of late.
No matorlal change in price, as ma
terial and labor continue high.
"The hardware line remains active in
all its branches. It is believed that the
volume of business being done in this
line will exceed that for several cor
responding seasons, and indications
point to a decided increase in the de
mand for builders' hardware iu the near
future. Trices remain firm and collec
tions good.
"The chemical market continues fair
ly active, there being 11 good demand in
all lines. The situation iu dyestuffs ro
mnins about the same, uud while con
siderable domestic dyes are being used
and buying is principally for immediate
xierus, prices continue high.
"The paper market shows little im
provement. Manufacturers and jobbers
report 11 fair amount of business being
done, but there is lUtie marked in
crease In volume of sales. Prices in
clined to be h little inch.
'Paint manufacturers, dealers in
paint and painters' supplies report lit
tle change in this line of business. Pur
chases are in moderate quantities and
represent ull grades of material. There
appears to bo a fair amount of work
under way among painters for the mid
winter season, which it is believed will
show considerable increase during the
ferly spring season. There is little
change in prices an! -olli,.tion. -.,.:.V

Ihe Jarge cigar manufacturers are
active and working to full capacity, W

An Unusual Investment Opportunity
Due to the Present Premium in Canada on United States Funds
During the last two months the premium on United States funds in
Canada has established a new high record, with the result that
purchasers in the United States have been able to obtain choice
bonds, issued in Canada, but payable at maturity in United States
funds, to yield much" higher interest returns than formerly.
An example of this is a block of
$2,400,000

areas of the States of Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio, and is
one of the leading wheat producing sections of the world. It has an esti
mated present population of over 800,000, and a gross funded debt of less
than $35,000,000, a large part of which was incurred for expenditures to the
publicly owned telephone system and other income producing properties.
