n concluding dinner of the campaign.
It was announced that the fed

Colonel Samuel D. Lit, chairman of the
(amiulsn committee, asked the workers
If they were willing to continue their
efforts' until that sum had been 1 cal
led. His proposition was greeted en
thusiastically. The teams will have
luncheon once more Thursday when it
is expected the fund will have reached
$1,250,000. ,
The success of the drive was not the
only matter of interest at the campaign
dinner. Great enthusiasm prevailed
when Jules E. Mnitbnum raised sub
scriptions of $70,000 in a 100,000
fund that is to be established to help
ioung men get a start in business and
make it possiDie ior noncst Business
people in straitened circumstances to
horrow money without going to loan i
Sharks. The raising of this fund last
night was entirely unexpected and was
the most bensatlonal event of the eve
ning. The campaign total for the day was '
$182,010. to which the men's teams
lontributed $120, BbS, and the women's
division, under the chairmanship of
Mrs, Arthur Locb. $57,031. The grand
total collected in the drive by the men
was $801,053 and that raised by the
tv omen $170,308.
The highest report for the day was
that of Mrs. Henry FIcisher, chairman
of North Philadelphia, who read re
turns to an amount of $17,420. The
highest men's team for the day was that
of Joseph N. Sncllcnburg, reporting
516,502. The banner team for the en
tire campaign was that of Jacob D. Lit.
with a grand total of $140,000. The
team of Albert M. Gieonfield was next
with a grand total of SS0.000.
Fourteen hundred dollars xxas col
locted in a drive nt Hirs,eh's, 023-23-27
Market street. Every coworker of the
ktorc contributed and L. W. Hirsch,
resident of the company, added $700.
This money is placed to the account of
Mrs L. V. Hirsch, who is a member
of the committee.

Signs Being Removed
Federal agents are investigating com
plnlnts that moro than, a hiuulrcd sa
loons and small clubs in various sec
tions of the city arc operating in vio
lation of the prohibition nmendment.
Leo II. Crosscn, in charge of "en
forcing prohibition iu this district, said
that mnuy of the complaints had been
icceivcd by telephone. In many cases,
he said, the complainants are very spc
cine and even tell the agents how to
secure the liquors.
Signs hanging before saloons and
other former liquor-dispensing cstab
lishments underwent a startling change
yesterday when the familiar wording
was crossed out or painted over, or
the signs removed entirely, to conform
with the law against advertising intoxi-cants.

That was enough I
But added to that deadly combina

paintings had flooded the office of the
press board some far. surpassing the
original ideas fiom which they were

well to toll the truth, it just got the
better of their curiosity and they
couldn't wait for the issue to appear, so
they demanded that the whole thing be
submitted before it was printed.
Dr. A. Goodspeet', chairman of the
committee, and called dictator of student
activities, is noncommittal. The editors
of the quarterly expect no changes to
be made in the issue and it probably
will appear the caily part of next week.
